The United States government is failing their duty to protect the American people by allowing the use of drones. Drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UVAS), are flying aircrafts that are controlled by a ground pilot or follow a pre-programmed assignment. These robots can fly at high altitudes, take pictures/video, carry cargo, and many more other things. Drones pose a deadly threat because they can fly undetectable, carry missiles, and bombs. At first, drones were only used by the military, but now average people are able to purchase them. This is a scary thought because anyone can buy these deadly weapons and cause chaos. They can be equipped with cameras and can take video and pictures without someone even knowing. Citizens have a right to privacy, therefore this is a problem, that poses a threat on personal safety. Thieves can surveillance homes, perverts can creep on bystanders, predators can easily stalk victims and other criminal activity has been enhanced because of drones.This is disturbing because drones have created a new way for criminals to misbehave. Incidents have happened where people are filmed without knowing they were being watched through the use of drones. This article from the Hutchinson news talks a drone that was spotted during a KU football game, "The drone at KU appeared to be carrying a camera, which could keep an eye on anyone who was in the stadium" (Lawrence) Although the drone seemed harmless in the stadium, it exposed how drones have the ability to be anywhere and film anything. Facial recognition and surveillance systems can be applied to drones. This is a violation of privacy and safety of American citizens. These devices come in all shapes and sizes, meaning they can be anywhere. The presence of drones will have people living in constant fear and paranoia.
