Our school was very strict on the use of technology for cyberbullying. If found guilty of the accusation, you are immediately suspended for three days. Social media was and probably still is a common form of commutation at our school. Clubs and groups use Instagram accounts to post on upcoming events or urgent information they need every member to know. Our own leadership class had nearly all of the popular social media platform’s accounts available. We even introduced a new postion to maintain all of our accounts updated. So when it became apparent that our ASB president and a senior class representative where cyberbullying two girls who happened to be our newly elected rally commissioners, I was out raged. They were uprising a surge of problems that where just going to create tension between two different groups. A group of supporters for the losing team, and the group who supported the elected rally commissioners. Sadly, I was put in the middle of this situation and was forced to end it to uphold the integrity of our school’s student government. It all begins at the end of our junior year. I was always mentored to go our consituatrs on a one on one stance, and talk to them directly. My problem with using social media is that you can’t use your body to communicate your thoughts. Words are just words, but the person who said them can make a huge impact. Each person has a perspective of one another. They might think highly of you, respect who you are or even they might think you’re the biggest jerk in the world. This is what makes us human, our perspective and our consness. But when we use social media nobody can see us, we surrender the idea of body language and being able to make mistakes in conversation. We no longer need to take stance on what we say.
