Nowadays, a college degree is an essential part of a person’s resume. Choosing a college is tough especially for high school juniors and seniors. There are many factors that influence a student to choose a college such as student life, curriculum, length of program, return of investment and employability after college among other things. Since the late 20th century, students have been using college ranking reports such as the U.S News and World Report which put out yearly ranks of colleges in different categories; they also have an overall list for the top ranking schools. These lists help students decide what college would fit them best. Unfortunately, using the U.S. News and World Report, and other of these resources to choose a school can be problematic as they might provide misleading or biased information.
In March of this year, CNN reported about a former student of Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego; the student sued the Thomas Jefferson School of Law after not being able to get a job as an attorney three years after graduating. When she was researching and applying to colleges back in 2004, the U.S. News and World Report reported that 80 percent of students who at the time attended the Thomas Jefferson School of Law became employed within nine …show more content…

Some students and parents judge a school even before visiting that school. Other students want the privilege and bragging rights even if the school is way out of their budget league. Other students do not care about bragging rights but still think that a higher ranking college will provide them a better education when in the end, they might end up as a faceless name and an uncultivated grade. Unfortunately, these lists are still published and are circulated among students, parents and educators. They do not seem to give the full scope of the school whether or not will provide the best education possible for an affordable
