Central Park was one of those best outdoor venues for huge concerts. But not only that, it is even one of the venue for the largest concerts ever in terms of estimated attendance. That seems quite a feat but the huge space that the park offers was able to accommodate around 980,000 attendees during Garth Brooks’ concert in 1997. Thousands of years ago, the area where Central Park now stands is covered and surrounded by glaciers. But about 12,000 years ago, the last of them known as the Wisconsin Glacier finally melted away.But if you’re still in doubt, the large boulders (bedrock) you can see around the park are in fact left there when the glaciers receded and serves as the strongest geological evidence of their existence then. An early decline in the 1900’’s followed by a revitalization by Robert Moses Another decline in the 1960’s followed by the formation of the Central Park Conservancy in 1980. In 1962 Central Park was designated as a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior. The Conservancy is a non-profit organization that contributes 75 percent of Central Park's $65 million annual budget and is responsible for all basic care of the 843-acre park. As of today there are several buildings in Central Park, two of which predate the park itself—a blockhouse at the north end dating from the War of 1812 and the Arsenal Building which was built between 1847 and 1851 by the State to store munitions.
