Taylar Browning Mrs. Gallos English 3 21 November 2017 How can we speak up for the lives of innocent creatures: More than 48% of all animals are abused every year. “Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized 670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats”(Pet Statistics) Although dogs are considered a “man's best friend” some do not always see animals in that way. Animal abuse is an ongoing issue all over the world. 48% of all animals are abused in the U.S. Animal abuse is portrayed in many ways. A cat claws the carpet and it is thrown outside. A dog makes a mess and it is kicked.“There are two main types of abuse. The first type of animal abuse is passive which can be defined as neglect or failing to take care of an Direct harm to an animal is obvious, if the animal is acting scared towards humans and has physical symptoms of violence then more than likely the animal has been abused. The other thing to look out for is neglect. This could be multiple things as far as not taking care of an animal. A few examples are, malnourishment, untreated injuries, poor living conditions and so on. “So what do you do if you notice an animal that appears to be suffering from one or more of these issues? Call your local animal welfare agency immediately” (Cesars Way). If any animals are seen neglected contact the proper authorities so the animals can be rescued. In a recent statistic animal abuse in some cases involves domestic abuse as well. The statistic states 13% of animal abusers are also abusive in relationships. “70% of animal abusers also have records of other crimes” (People Problem). For an example, a spouse in a relationship is frightened to leave the relationship because they are worried the abuser will take their anger out on a animal. It is believed that aggressive abusers tend to abuse animals because they see them as lifeless
