Persuasive Essay On Alternative Energy

1430 Words3 Pages

Acid rain, global warming, and air quality are all leading problems in today 's society, but the world could eliminate these complications by putting time and money into alternative energy. Alternative energy can effectively reduce the amount of fossil fuels used. “Around 90% of energy used in the world today is made by fossil fuels” (Tjblackwell 1). Alternative energy cannot replace the use of all fossil fuel, but any amount of alternative energy use can be effective. Methods of these energy alternatives can save the earth from running out of fossil fuels. Also, they can decrease the amount of pollution released into the air each and every day. Alternative energy is the way the world must go in order to stop the earth from destruction. …show more content…

Americans can take action by working to persuade the government to help boost funding for research on new ways to create energy, and put these newly innovated energy sources in use. Also, without the government 's assistance there is no way anyone will be able to create factories or electrical plants to create the energy that is needed. Just one example, instead of spending so much of American citizens’ tax dollars on welfare, which for the most part is for Americans without jobs, the government should spend the money on research previously mentioned to come up with better ways to use alternative energy. Another reason why the government should spend money on research to create new energy sources, factories, and power plants is because they will generate jobs for these poor, to keep them off welfare. These jobs could range anywhere from a job constructing the plant to the CEO of the business. With this being said, anyone could land a job at one of these places no matter what level of education they may have. Individuals who are even on welfare can land a job at these factories which is a win-win for everyone. This is because if people have jobs and do not have to be on welfare, it means less money the government has to spend on lower income people or people that do not have a job. This leaves the government more money to spend on other things like factories and extensive research for …show more content…

“If nothing changes about the rate of coal consumption there is enough to last over a thousand years. However, if the rate of consumption rises even 5%, there is less than hundred years supply” (Tjblackwell 1). When creating energy from coal, it gives off a thick dark cloud which is highly pollutant and releases a large amount of carbon monoxide for every pound that is burned. Coal was first used back into the late 1700 when the first steamboat was built, whereas coal is now used to power whole cities. There are always improvements in technology like the one just listed which is where energy alternatives are headed in the near future. Coal is a very effective way to power machinery, but that same machinery that can also be powered by solar energy, hydrogen, or biofuel. All of these alternatives allow machinery to function without creating any pollution. In contrast, coal has turned rivers orange from the acid and coal mines are the cause of thousands of deaths every year because of how pollutant it is to a human 's body. One can concluded that even though this has been an effective way to produce energy, this old method should be removed from our current practice should be removed from our current practice. The problem Americans face is there is no possible way they can get people to stop using coal. However, if one thinks about it, education and awareness can help to end some of our excessive use
