Abortion is the termination of human pregnancy, which usually happens in the first twenty-eight weeks of pregnancy. There are many causes of abortion. Some are spontaneous, which might because of the physical constitution of the pregnant women; some are induced by surgical or medical means. Normally, spontaneous abortion are not considered to be morally problematic. However, induced abortion is an intensely controversial issue. Is induced abortion morally right? Some people think that induced abortion for any reason is murder, while others believe that the mothers’ right carry more moral weight than the fetuses’ right. An experiment is made to test whether people support or are against abortion. This experiment has 261 participants whose age is between 18 to 50 years. The research states, “…women were less likely to want an abortion than were the men” (Edlund). This might cause the parents to argue and resulting in a bad relationship. The worst thing that could happen is the mother is so depressed that she commits suicide. The research also says, “…participants were more likely to support an abortion of a younger fetus than an older fetus” (Edlund). They admitted that adult humans have the right to life, and it is unacceptable to kill an innocent person. However, they do not in favor of the view that fetuses are persons. They believe fetuses have right only after they have been born, since when they could be regarded as a person. Even though fetuses own their genetic code, hearts and organs, those do not make fetuses fully persons. One of the most important deficiencies is the mental capacities. When a human being is not consciously aware, he cannot be regarded as a person. Thus, fetuses doesn’t have right and their mothers’ right carry more moral weight.
