There is so much to be discovered in our vast world of technology. Scientists and researchers work hard everyday to educate themselves and others on the advances capable of being achieved. There are people learning about new technology, different scientific and medical methods, and most of all medicine everyday. However, there is always a price to pay with hypotheses running their course through experiments, and that is the testing subject. Scientists feel the best choice for such research is to use animals to be tested, and that great achievements in the science world are worth it. Just as these scientists are, testing on innocent animals is completely wrong. Just because they are available for testing, and don’t have any ability to opt out in these experiments, does not mean they are right for the job. Predominantly, animal testing is proven to be cruel and inhumane, even with cosmetic experimentation. Animals feel pain just as humans do, so if it’s wrong to test on humans for these reasons, why is it acceptable to do so on animals? Scientists say that animals like chimps and mice are so genetically similar to humans, so they are great test subjects. However, if such animals happen to be so close to humans, the humane thing to do would be to not test on live creatures, similar to our species, who feel the same feelings as any other person. There have been many investigations on how these animals are treated, so the Humane Society International did research on the subject and got disturbing results. “Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing pro... ... middle of paper ... ...rnatives to Animal Testing." In modern society, animal experimentation has triggered a controversy; consequently, vast amount of protests have been initiated by the animal rights community. Although these organizations have successfully broadcasted their concerns toward animal experimentation, its application continues to survive. Sally Driscoll and Laura Finley inform that there remain fifty million to one-hundred million animals that experience testing or experimentation throughout the world on a yearly basis. But despite opposition, animal experimentation, the use of experiments on animals in order to observe the effects an unknown substance has on living creatures, serves multiple purposes. Those particular purposes are: research of the living body, the testing of

Writing this paper did not affect my original line of thinking in regards to the topic. I support animal rights in every way, and am extremely against any sort of testing. Observing the “necessities” of animal testing did not, in any way, alter my negative view of animal experimentation.
Animal experimentation is both unnecessarily cruel and inaccurate proving that it is neither beneficial nor ethical to perform. Animals are living creatures just like people and yet are treated as though they are nothing but tools by the self-proclaimed advanced species of the Earth. Alternatives to animal testing have been developed and presented throughout the years but scientists are stubborn and stuck in their ways so they continue to experiment on innocent creatures. Testing on animals is a barbaric practice that should have been abolished long ago yet humans have continued to perform the tests for years.
Each year, millions of animals, ranging from mice to monkeys, suffer through the cruel and inhumane practice of animal testing. Scientist throughout the world are torturing animals for mankind’s own benefit, which is unreliable in most cases. “According to Humane Society International, animals that are used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing processes and the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies.” Although humans often benefit from successful animal research, these animals do not have a voice to say no. The pain, suffering, and deaths inflicted on these animals are not worth the possible human benefits. Scientist test the animals for many products that we humans can use (makeup, medicine, etc.). Many of the items we purchase on a regular basis have been tested on animals first. Most of the animal testing is unreliable.
Every year about 100 million animals suffer through being poisoned, shocked, and burned for unsuccessful medical research. Some may believe that animal testing is a crucial part to medical research and should be used more frequently. Others believe the pain and suffering inflicted upon the animals is morally wrong and should not be done, no matter what benefits come from it.
When many people think of animal testing, the average person thinks about millions of dogs and cats being injected with dangerous chemicals and substances. However, this is usually not the case. 61% of animals that have been used for research suffered absolutely no pain. 31% have had their pain numbed by anesthesia. Only 6% of animals tested actually experienced pain. The misconception of millions of animals being tortured is extremely wrong. 6% is not very many animals that actually experience any type of pain. Also, the pain is usually helpful to show how the procedure would harm humans. The animals’ pain actually saves human beings pain. Animal Testers are seen as the “bad guys”, when less than one dog/cat is used for research and studies for every 50 destroyed by animal pounds across the country. Millions and millions of animals are euthanized when they cannot be taken care of in a shelter anymore. Another assumption made with animal testing is that it is mostly dogs and cats. However, less than 1.5% of testing is done on these species of animals. Humans share 95% of the genes with a mouse, which makes them a great model for the human body (Animal R...
There is a moral blind spot in the treatment of animals that enable us to justify the cruelties for the perceived benefits of humans. Animals are living things. They have lungs which breathe, hearts which beat, and blood that flows. In fact, animals sense of smell, sight, and sound is much more acute than our own. Therefore, we can assume that their sensitivity to pain is at least equal to ours. According to Hippocrates, “The soul is the same in all living creatures, although the body of each is different.” This can go with the Duty Theory that states that every individual gets treated the same. The intentions of animal testing is not to harm the animals, but that is exactly what it does.
Many have false perceptions of what animal testing really is and does. Scientists are using our animals to test the safety of products such as drugs, cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, and pharmaceuticals, but are not keeping these creatures safe while doing this (Humane, 1). It is not a simple blood test that is then taken into the lab and studied, it is a much more lengthy and gruesome process. This type of treatment to the animals does not put them in the right condition to be used for scientific data. There are few people who actually know how harmful animal testing is. Animals suffer just like humans do, just because
Now that we have a good feeling to what animal testing is and where it is being done, I will explain why animal testing is wrong and the negatives that come from it. Humans are animals, so it may seem like non-human animals are perfect for finding out answers that we may not know about medications, chemicals, and products. But what people do not understand is that these animals are suffering. Animals and humans are morally equal therefore animals should be awarded the same respect as humans (Liou, July 6, 2010). As animal rights activist, Ingrid E. Newkirk quotes, “When it comes to having a central nervous system, and the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a rat is a pig, a pig is a dog, and a dog is a boy.” We all feel, think and behave in the same way but we still continue to harm and test animals for our own benefit without giving them a say. This is well said by Indian philosopher and poet, Sri Aurobindo, when he says “Life is life- whether in a cat, dog, or man. There is no difference between a cat or man. The idea of difference is a humans conception for man’s own advantage.”
Hundreds of millions of animals die every year from animal testing in the United States. Innocent animals are used everyday in laboratories for biology advancements, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetic testing. They are used to provide information to make better products that are safe for human use. Although animal experimentation has some benefits, the negatives outweigh the positives. Animal testing is killing off innocent beings for the possible human benefit, and with modern technology, there are alternative ways to test products that leave animals unharmed.
Homework has always been associated with school, but not until recently has its usefulness been doubted. Students spend eight hours a day at school, not counting those in extracurricular activities, leaving little time to do anything besides their daily homework when they do get home. This brings up the age old argument of whether homework is harmful and should be abolished, or if homework is beneficial and should stay. Although some people believe homework is beneficial towards students, homework should be abolished because it does not guarantee that the student understands the subject, it increases stress levels, and it does not significantly affect test score.
Some believe that sciences has two types; good and bad. Good science is define by Embo Report as (2007) “Good science is define by having a good experimental design that helps reduce the number of animals used in the research. This allow scientists to gather data using the minimum number of animals required” (pg. 50). There are also consequences to good science seen in this quote, (2007)” Good science also means that there is a sufficient number that must be used to enable “precise statistical analysis and to generate significant results to prevent the repetition of experiments and the consequent need to use more animals” (pg. 50). Many of those who are in favor of animal rights believe that animal testing is a cruel act and murder. For some of these testing the animals are left with little time to heal. In addition some animal do not even get a chance to live after the testing. The testing process can be very harsh and brutal. The bioresearches perfectly gives a description on how some of these testing go (2015) “In order to create these models, animals are subjected to invasive procedures, which can include surgeries, traumatic injuries, burns, force-feeding, blood draws, biopsies, food, water, and social
The idea of animal testing has been a contested moral issue for over centuries. Many people have heard the phrase “ animal testing “ but are perhaps still unaware what exactly is involved. According to Biology-Online Dictionary, “ Animal testing is the use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials.” In my opinion, I strongly disagree with the concept of animal testing. It is cruel and inhumane however, there any are many gains, and also many losses, from animal research. Today animals are given numerous protections while the testing process is being conducted. Even though I don’t agree with animal testing in relation to the animals themselves having to undergo physical pain; I do however understand that animal research can provide an insight into examining human behavior.
First of all, animal testing should be banned in order to protect the rights of animals. In other words, animals’ rights are infringed by experimenting on them. Animals and humans are similar in many ways. To begin with, they have similar levels of biological complexity. They both are aware that they exist and they both make conscious choices. Philosophy professor at North Carolina State University Tom Regan points out "Animals have a basic moral right to respectful treatment. This inherent value is not respected when animals are reduced to being mere tools in a scientific experiment." (F. B. Orlans) Experimentation on an animal ...
