Job satisfaction is something that many people are never able to obtain. But what is job satisfaction? And how do we know how to find a job that is truly satisfying? Exploring your own personality is the first place you should look. “Understanding your own personality and the personalities of those around you is critical to success.” (Woodward, 2011) Everyone has his or her own personalities. Some people have similar personalities and some have very different personalities. How personalities work together with other personalities may be the key to finding your dream job. 105) Knowing myself as well as I do I would like to think I know how I would react in any given situation and for the most part I would. But, as I stated earlier, I have recently been enlightened to learn a great deal more about my personality. This new understanding has enabled me to better see my strengths and weaknesses and how to apply those to business.
What About Me? I’m an Air Traffic Controller and I have always worked with and been told that most controllers are Type A personality. I am not one of those controllers. I scored a 42 in this category, which is just below the healthy balance for a Type A. I display and can relate to most all of the traits as described in My Management Lab just not to the degree of a high Type A personality. 175) My motivation insights were a bit of a surprise to me. I think I just had blinders on when it came to this subject but once I looked deeper into it I was able to admit that I am most motivated by rewards and structure that enables me to move up the ladder to gain power and influence. If you were to ask me about my self-awareness, I would definitely tell you it’s above average. Turns out that I have a normal range of self-awareness, which was a bit of a surprise. I don’t throw caution to the wind. Mistakes I have made in the past have illuminated my self-awareness. I am open to feedback and I am always looking for ways to improve myself both at work and in God’s eyes. “Keep a close watch in yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by doing so you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Timothy 4:16)
