So how does one answer the very elaborate and loaded question, “Why do you want to become a doctor?” Most people answer this question by providing the pretty traditional and cliché response of, “To help other people.” Why hailed as an acceptable answer, is it really enough to elaborate on the true vision of one’s character? In other words, what does it truly for me to join the field of medicine?

My reasons for entering into medical field are definitely not limited to a singular defining moment that I can quantify. There are, however, been some major experiences, successes and failures, and social and personal relationships that raised my awareness of how much I enjoy diagnostics. Let me rephrase that last statement for emphasis, I do not like Diagnostics – I love it! When I was young and submerged into my imagination, I always envision a dream about the future. The one thing I was always certain of though was that I loved science. What I did not know was what I really wanted to be when I grew up. Firefighter always seemed like a pretty good option. But, just like any starry-eyed child, I never truly grasped my desires until later in life.

For me, sports and academics were a great focus for most of my high school career. The personal relationships with my classmates meant such a great deal, that I considered sportsmanship the center of my life. This led to a post-haste decision of joining the United States military to keep some of that camaraderie. While I was proud of my Army service, with multiple awards, service ribbons, and combat deployments, it also led to one of the greatest mistakes of my life. ...nging and more rewarding than anything I previously studied. Every day, every sample, is an enigma wrapped into what is the human body. The answers to the the unique questions posed by our patients our what I am searching for. In a busy clinic or in the operating room, I will bring professionalism and a positive attitude to each situation. Hailed as a scientific avocation into the human psyche, medicine offers examples as an insight to the human condition or for the future of our species. Having the ability to aid others by applying all this forefront scientific knowledge and technique is rare. It isn’t just wanting to help patient, it goes far beyond that. Because nothing to me is more rewarding than answering the more complex problems to treat the mind, the body, and soul. All of which are how I answer why I would like to advance my career in medicine as physician.
