Immersive Spanish Learning: My Study Abroad Journey in Spain

The study abroad program I have chosen is CSU IP Spain: Learn Spanish. This specific program stood out to me because it allows me to capitalize on an opportunity to learn and develop spanish, while becoming fully immersed in the culture. Some factors that led to this decision were deciding to double major in Psychology and Spanish, as well as having a personal love for culture and travel. Educationally, I am hoping that my experience abroad allows me to establish fluency in spanish and a competence of the culture and history of Spain. I am also anticipating that my experience abroad will give me new perspectives on understanding different people, which furthermore impacts my studies in psychology and my intended career choice.

My goal is to successfully obtain degrees in both Psychology and Spanish so that I can provide a foundation for myself to hopefully partake in graduate school upon completion of being an undergraduate. I hope to gravitate my studies towards a counseling or therapeutic profession. I believe studying abroad and becoming fluent in Spanish will allow me to understand and communicate with people on a broader spectrum. I am already bilingual, speaking both English and Farsi. My goal of becoming trilingual and multicultural will liberate me in understanding a wide array of people and their backgrounds. I am unclear of what I want my exact profession to be, however I know it will deal with interacting and communicating with others on a daily basis. Gilman scholarship, I would use the scholarship to help fund all of my educational costs from textbooks, supplies, and traveling to my host country, to being able to participate in the three week intense course over winter break. Receiving this scholarship would impact me in numerous ways. The most beneficial aspect of receiving this scholarship would be that it would allow me to dedicate more time on my studies and allow me to partake in opportunities to enhance my education.
