Participating in co-curricular activities is a good way for a student to get his/her foot in the door with potential employers and assist in learning what is being taught in school. Co-curricular are activities, learning experiences, and programs that complements what the student is learning is school. So this could include anything from joining an engineering club to getting an internship. A “world-class” student would take advantage of having as many experiences as they can under their belt, but not only because it looks good on their resume. These activities can also help a student learn and gather new engineering experiences that might open some new doors for the future for them. As a “world-class” student you should be have strong morals that are important to you and stick with it regardless of the situation. Having good morals and applying them to your daily life may seem like a simple task, but someday someone may ask you to compromise. It is important not to compromise your beliefs and morals for the benefit of another person. I am a very hard-headed person and I work hard for what I know is right. If a situation comes up and I do not agree with the decision I will fight for what I believe is right in the most professional manner. I am more than willing to compromise with people to an extent, but with my morals there is not a chance of that happening. It is important to keep an open mind to other’s opinions, but I was raised with certain morals/beliefs that I have always stuck to. To make myself more of a “world-class” student I believe I could still work on this by writing down my morals. Figuring out what exactly is important to me and why they really are. Hartman started off his article by talking about generosity, honesty, courage and respect. In order to become a well rounded individual you must be aware of the moral problems in society and be able to evaluate them. Respectively, this class has allowed me to do so, through readings and videos, providing my own insight on many moral issues. This class has shown me there are many different interpretations to right and wrong, and hard evidence must be agued to be persuasive. One of the very first friends I’ve made at Sacred Heart told me about her first test in Italian class. She was sitting in between two people who decided to cheat. They were whispering around her, asking for the letter answer to a multiple choice question. My friend, knowing that they were both excellent students who were most likely striving for a perfect score at any cost, looked down at her paper and saw that she didn’t have the same answer as the girls who cheated. Despite the tempting chance to seemingly get a question right, my friend knew her standards and morals that she set for herself and did not change her answer. My religion installs values such as honesty, courtesy, and determination, which determine how I treat other people. My association with professionals helps me to embrace values, such as determination, personal integrity, accountability, and excellence, which are fundamental in designing my academic and professional paths. This dilemma is not limited to professional vs personal. All of us are confronted with the reality of rules or laws that we personally believe are unjust or immoral. We have to determine how to resolve this tension. Being a pragmatic ethicist, I do not believe that we should always take a principled and extreme stance for every issue. For instance, I am against the death penalty, but I don’t feel like moving out of New York State just because this state allows the death penalty.

In college, I will also be exposed to new clubs and activities. I feel that club and after school activities can make a person more involved and give a person the right qualities to become a leader. I strongly believe that some acts are morally right and others morally wrong. Though in society today I find many different people with many different opinions on this some issues. The way someone was raised or the experiences they have faced could be what has molded these beliefs. The differences between right and wrong are not always the same in each person's head and this is where we face controversy. Morals differ from person to person resulting in confrontations dealing with morality issues. Such as euthanasia, human beings should not have to suffer, just as we do not allow animals to suffer. I believe Pro-Choice is morally right. Woman should be given the choice of whether or not she can terminate her pregnancy. The last two pillars, respect and responsibility, are linked together hand in hand. Respect can be broken down into having respect for others, and having others respect you. I have most of my life consider myself to be an ethical person. I try to empathize with others, be kind and respectful and definitely not be deceitful. I was raised in a family with morals, values. I come from a Christian home, but not overly religious. I was raised by parents who always stressed for us to be respectful and honest people. We were taught the rights and the wrongs of life. We were taught not only to conduct ourselves in this manner at home, but to also carry these beliefs into the work world and world in general. But, I am aware that I am human and have made mistakes in my life that have questioned my ethics. Then again, there have been many experiences, personal and work related to where I struggled.
