PERSONAL STATEMENT
Ever since my undergraduate years in medical school, I have been fascinated with public health. Seeing the range of problems public health professionals (consultant community physicians) were contending with and their use of novel and simple measures to solve these, further intrigued me. Of particular interest was the community based postings that took us to a low income, minority, medically underserved community of Ilie, Osun state, Southwestern Nigeria, where I became impressed with the significant improvement in health indices: infant/maternal mortality, infectious diseases, and helminthiasis control etc. These achievements were largely due to various health enlightenment campaigns and advocacy sessions through the communities’ active participation on the need to imbibe: good personal and environmental sanitation, regular antenatal visits, prompt treatment of illnesses and the need to abandon negative cultural practices such as female genital

Some, such as the establishment of surveillance systems, dissemination of guidelines, implementation of research findings, or development of effective public health programs, are examples of such tools by which public health has dealt with the burden of disease for decades. Personal health is extremely important to everyone around the world. But it is especially important to citizens of the United States of America. Being one of the leading countries in Health technology and also in food and beverage leaves most people choosing between living a healthy lifestyle and indulging in the varieties of food we offer. Across the country, many people are living with pre-existing conditions, living in food deserts, living below the poverty line and a long list of other factors that either hinders them from eating healthy or force them to eat healthily. When trying to live a healthy lifestyle in this country not only does the promotion of prevention matter, but also the promotion of Career and job opportunities matter just as much. In the United States, Money equals Power and money also equal the opportunity to create and live a healthier lifestyle.

In the United States today, many aspects of health are very segregated. This form of separation is referred to as silos. Animal, human, and environmental health are separated into these silos. Experts in these fields rarely work together or collaborate. The majority of research, funding, and resources are separated in to the three disciplines. The solution to this issue is the concept of “One Health”. One Health acknowledges the connectivity of all aspects of health. By working together, it is possible to detect outbreaks of disease earlier and save many more lives. One Health has made a dramatic influence on infectious disease prevention, detection, and treatment. Although there has been some advancements, there is still much

In this paper I plan on focusing on a public health epidemic that is taking over the U.S.
At an early stage in my medical school in Iraq, I realized the great positive impact of public health on the community in health education orientation, disease prevention and health well-being as a general and what affirmed it later, my clinical practice as a physician in Iraq first then Dubai later. Public health was a major integral block in my clinical practice to educate the people towards a healthier lifestyle and implementing the preventative screening measures necessary to get a healthy, well protected community. After moving to the United States, I took the initiative to familiarize myself with the US healthcare system by doing many clinical rotations in different family practices and pediatric clinics in Houston, TX. After these rotations, I was enamored with the delivery of public health measures in each clinic, according to the US public health standards. My fondness for public health drove me to get an opportunity to be a health educator
Education is neither linear nor static. It requires evolution and fluctuations. I received my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science at UNC Charlotte, and now it is time for a prime conversion to be made. Attending the Masters of Public Health program at UNC Charlotte would open the door for me to pursue my career aspirations in health care. Specifically, I am interested in epidemiological methods in community health. My ambition, perseverance, and work ethic have brought me to a high point, and enrolling in the Masters in Public Health program would raise that threshold even higher.
For an effective public health system that can ensure the nation’s health, there must be a collaborative contribution between networks of people and organizations in the public and private sectors, as well as an alignment of policy and practice of governmental public health agencies at the federal, state, and local levels.4 According to the CDC global health strategy, CDC’s unique expertise enables them to address the global health challenges and collaborate with domestic and international partners and valuable stakeholders to improve the health and well-being globally.5 For example, CDC’s Center for Global Health (CGH) is responsible for the technical work conducted by global programs, such as global immunizations, HIV/ AIDS, parasitic diseases and malaria, disease detection and surveillance, health systems, etc.5 They facilitate collaboration and coordination among such programs globally.5 Similarly, in 2017, as per the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) cooperative agreement, CDC awarded more than $200 million to help states, cities, counties, and territories, to improve prevention, detection, outbreak response, and controlling the increasing health threats due to emerging and re-emerging infectious

The theme for National Public Health Week 2015 is, ‘‘together we can create the healthiest nation in one generation.’’ National Public Health Week occurs in the first full week of April each year, and it is a time that us as students and health care workers should show our community what public health is really all about. Health care workers can show improvements in technology, current safety measures and major changes in the delivery of our health care system. Public health protects and promotes the health of the people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play (APHA, 2015).
To begin with, we have to identify what exactly means for the words “public health”. In general, we usually divided into two different areas. Public health which refers to the health of the environment surrounding in public, such as public transport and public infrastructure. Another explanation of public health means to prevent disease produced by different channels and methods, which also is the most common meaning and what I will mainly working for this paper about public health. First of all, when people mentioned about public health, United States and Japan would be the first two countries to compare with. Because the United States and Japan are basically two of the countries that everybody thinks of the most robust public health system.

There are numerous public health problems that can be addressed in my Southside of Chicago community. Among the several public health problems facing my Southside of Chicago community there are two that are more urgent. Health education or one might say lack thereof is a problem that needs to be addressed. My community is plagued with many of the residents suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and the killer virus known as HIV. In most cases these conditions can be prevented with healthier lifestyles and access to nutritious organic foods. In addition, environmental health is another urgent problem my community is facing. Access to clean, safe water and air is supposed to be a fundamental human right aimed at a healthy environment. Yet, my community consists a waste contaminated beach, numerous deteriorated building that are still occupied, and a countless number of restaurant and stores supplying our residents with services that are endangering their health.
Utilization of community health worker and non health personnel (influential person in the community) was noted as innovative. In Burkina Faso, community health worker and community representatives, maintain lists of women and children who need immunizations, conduct house-to-house visits to identify eligible children and refer them to the nearest health centre or outreach session. Likewise, non health personnel are used to mobilize communities for immunization. The non health personnel are also incorporated at health centre level with the establishment of village health committee and Health Centre Management Committee (Comate de Gestion du Centre de Santé).
