Totaled together, my many life experiences have defined why I want to become a pharmacist. Through my future career, I want patients to advocate for their health and an analytical integration of food, genetics, and medicine. Therefore, I have made my personal and professional skills the means to this end. An interest in pharmacy was no accident; my family fed me a steady diet of pharmacy-related discussions and experiences. My stepmother and late grandfather, both pharmacists, captured my imagination as they advised patients and businesses, counted pills and tablets, and worked days and nights to improve the health of those around them. I witnessed how essential pharmacists improve the well-being of communities through their assistance of patients, …show more content…
I understand now that I want to carry on their work and be a part of the health care engine, standing on their shoulders and assuring that, yes, the field is great as ever.
My cumulative personal, educational, and professional work and achievements enabled me to pursue the Doctor of Pharmacy degree. An interest in diet arose from a hobby; I cook under food restrictions due to familial genetic and lifestyle diseases. From literature reviews and recipe creation that carried over to the kitchen table, I could ease symptoms through food and drink. In school, I applied myself to studying biochemistry and the health sciences. I knew I wanted a career with advanced coursework and therefore prepared with the most relevant classes. Worked towards my goal while maintaining my focus, my GPA and my

On an intellectual level, I also want to learn more about organic chemistry, nutrition, genetics, public health, and health systems. I also look forward to learning from new mentors and gaining experiences that will guide me towards the best specialties and interdisciplinary work granted by the degree. Although I have an idea of what interests me now, I want to explore the different options from a more advanced perspective, developed by an education as a health professional. As previously mentioned, I would like to work with patient populations and assist them in their treatments. My experiences as a student pharmacist will help me decide how to approach their problems through specific research, business, and government roles. Most importantly, I want my work to be relevant to the field and human health, both now and in the future. Like my stepmother and grandfather before me, I want my work to improve the machine and, in the end, bring
Pharmacy appeals to me because of its potential to ease people’s physical and emotional suffering. The simple act of listening and being empathetic to the concerns of other’s health and wellbeing has inspired me to learn more about the profession. Perseverance in college followed by the biotech industry has provided me with the necessary research skills to be successful. The ever-changing pharmacy field would allow me to continue my education, culminating in an exciting career.
Since a young age, I’ve always wanted to work in the healthcare field. During high school, I completed a specialization in health and well-being which guided me towards a co-op placement at NEOMO. Once my placement was complete, the physicians expressed how impressed they were with my progress and I was offered a job. Since then, they’ve shown me many hands-on healthcare opportunities, which led me to pursue my bachelor degree in Biomed.
I believe pursuing the Doctor of Pharmacy degree immensely relates to both my immediate and long term goals. Something I like to live by is to always challenge yourself because if you keep doing what is easy, you will never advance or become better. It has already been a challenging path and I know it will get harder, but challenging myself in school is my immediate goal, and I know it will be worth it down the road. It also helps to keep things interesting. I know I would make a fantastic pharmacist, and so I make it a goal to challenge myself every day in everything I do including my education.
When you ask people what you think when word “pharmacist” come to your mind? They often say pharmacist have to deal with variety of legal drugs. From my personal opinion, when I hear the word “Pharmacist”, I think of helping others. This inspiration came from my Health Science class I took in twelve grade. Until senior year of my high school, I did not know what I wanted to be. But it all changed, after my first shadowing experience at pharmacist station. There I learn about what exactly the pharmacist career is about, what are some of the equipments used in the field and how I can contribute the knowledge I receive here to help others.

Since my early schooling days, science and mathematics have always fascinated me given that all components of the world are explained on the basis of these disciplines. In this regard, Pharmacy which is based on Chemistry and Mathematics has interested me a great deal as it has direct impacts on our daily lives. The more I have become familiar with the chemistry and mathematics knowledge involved in pharmacy, the more I have appreciated its significance in improving the lives of people in the community. Out of the many careers that one would opt to pursue, Pharmacy has stood out as the career that will enable me serve the society more directly and have a real impact in the quality of peoples’ lives by touching their health. In addition, I love a career that is challenging and one that I will be involved in even in old age. In this case, Pharmacy offers me this opportunity. My interest in Pharmacy has also developed from my personal health experiences and becoming aware of its expansiveness. Every time I have had to take medicine to cure an illness, I have become more interested to know how drugs are made and how the drug components work in the human body to alleviate pain and restore health. Compounded with other health issues, he was prescribed with a myriad of medications, ranging from hypertension and blood thinner to bladder spasm drugs. As I watched my aunt, who is a pharmacist, educating my elderly grandfather on polypharmacy, it sparked my interest in pharmacy as I researched all the medicines to get familiar with grandfather’s treatments. To get some insight and explore if this field is right for me, I applied and was offered the opportunity to shadow a pharmacist at UC Davis Hospital. This gave me a first glimpse of how vital pharmacists are in helping patients to recover and stay healthy, and this experience has solidified my desire to be a
I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides

The rest of your life will be full of difficult tasks and decisions, one of them being your choice of major in college. However, choosing one that has a multitude of paths to take can make things seem to rest at ease. For myself, the path I’ve chosen is Endocrinology, which is the study of the endocrine system, it’s glands and its hormones. This field opens many of doors for me in the medical industry but my focus will be on diabetes because it is something I’ve had to see and deal with my whole life because my dad has Type 2 Diabetes. I’ll be researching the significance of Endocrinology and the path to becoming an Endocrinologist as well as its rewards.

When starting into a Health Science degree program, my goal was to become a Nutritionist. While I didn’t quite know all the preparation that specific career goal entailed, I have decided to stick with it as I have learned so much already of the steps needed to be successful in my plans. I want to be a Nutritionist because I have always enjoyed cooking and baking, even to the point of considering a culinary career. However, I have also always been passionate about making healthier food choices and trying to understand how simple changes in diet can affect our overall wellbeing. With that, I decided to go into a Nutrition related field, that way I can not only learn about what choices to make and why we should make them, but also so I can help

Pharmacists often work together in a team with other healthcare professional like physicians and nurses. In the process, pharmacists will give advice to them on the selection of medication, by providing the evidences based on the dosage form, the side effects and possible interaction with food of the medication. On the other hand, pharmacists also take part in research and clinical studies. Recently, pharmacists are recruited to conduct pharmacy-based research in pharmacies. (Swanson, 2005)
