From Humble Beginnings: A Journey to Medical Residency

My parents are the artist of my life; they infused the colors of integrity and discipline in my life from the very early age. Growing up with these demeanor of diligence and care towards everyone, unconditionally, not only made possible for a child like me, who was born in the remotest area of Pakistan and was unfamiliar with basic alphabets of English till the age of 11, to become the doctor, but also being the first person of my town to apply for residency in USA. The unparalleled commitment of my father to serve hundreds of ailing, in an under-privileged areas, and my mother who maintained the highest level of care for everyone, endorsed my commitment of taking care of ailing human beings by becoming a doctor. Stepping into medical college, was like marrying the love of my life! I enjoyed every day that I spent in medical college and every moment that I took care of my patients, with compassion and modesty. I learned, on the first day of my clinical rotation that satisfaction is the real fortune of a doctor’s life, which comes through compassion and integrity while taking care of patients. I had a wonderful experience in my life, which started as part of my philanthropic activities, but later on turned into a medical adventure. I did not quit, I tried again and entirely focused on my goal, ultimately clearing not only step 2 CK but also cleared step 3 on the first attempt. I spent extra time in the USA, attaining clinical experiences, so that I can familiarize myself with US healthcare system. Therefore, experiences of working with residents and fellows, broadened my medical knowledge and strengthened my clinical skills.
