Despite my interest in helping people, choosing social work major is a path that was design for me before realizing it. My revelation about social work first starts with my personal experience. Growing up as a child, losing a father, a mother that I thought she died, siblings that I was used to see everyday and disappear, moving and living in five different countries to find peace and security through United Nations, being abused and neglected, losing my dignity as a woman in the society, missing school for 10 years had impacted my life and helped me see the world in my own unique perspectives. The tools and lesson learn from social work classes best fit with my goals about life. One of my goal is to fight for justice. I have come from a place where social justice has always been an issue. My social work classes showed me techniques on how I can make changes on things that I am passion about. One technique learned in social work is, advocacy, how to advocate for vulnerable individuals. Looking at these experiences, I believe the MSW program would be a good fit for my professional education because I will be able to utilize my past experiences and the one that I am going to learn in this program. The MSW program will add more into my knowledge about social work code of ethics, how to effectively work with individuals, groups, families, and communities. The program will also help me finds strength and weakness in me my just like in the BSW program. One weakness that I had in the BSW program was improving my writing skills in English given the fact that English is my second language. I have seen changes from when I entered the program until my current semester. Friends and teachers have seen those changes and they are the contributed in my success.
