Self Reflection As athlete Pele quoted, “Success is not accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” This quote speaks to me because at the beginning of the semester, before I joined Ms Dubbe’s class, I had phobia for going to school, due to surviving bullying in high school. That incident took much from me and coming back to school after two years was a big step I was unsure of facing. I was scared of my worst nightmare prevailing. I lacked confidence in myself; I questioned my ability to succeed. Most of all, English being my second language was more frightening to me. When I joined this class, my vocabulary and essay writing, reading and understanding, and time management skills were poor. That essay helped me reflect over my weaknesses and strengths. I was able to outline strategies to use in order to be a successful college student. Due to the past few months in Ms. Dubbe’s class, I have learned much about myself and I have improved my vocabulary and essay writing skills. First, I have learned effective study strategies by making study cards and using web sites to practice and learn new vocabulary words. In fact, for every new word I come across, I make a study card in order to help me remember it later. My vocabulary has improved compared to when I first started this class. I also have been working on reading assignments in the ENF textbook, which has improved my reading skills. I have learned how to write an essay coherently starting from introduction to conclusion.
