As a result, students consistently fail the EOC’s because of the lack of preparation and thought of the teachers. In order for most students to get passing grades, often teachers always curve the grades, so they are not embarrassed and look like they were not teaching anything. To make the tests a success for the students, teachers should be able to make their own end of course exams because they know what they have taught and how they have taught
Although going to college provides many opportunities for success, many students do not perform to the best of their potential. Often times, students only do enough to get by. But where does this problem start? The problem starts with the curriculum in the classrooms. If the curriculum included tests to be distributed on a more frequent basis, students would excel on a higher level of learning.
It is quite often thought that students should not be required to learn a foreign language, due it being too difficult and unimportant. According to Anthony, “Learning a new language is very overwhelming and can be even harder with a bunch of school work on top of it. I think that it should just be an option for the students,” (“Should Students Learn a Foreign Language”). Learning a foreign language only stresses students out due to the amount of work it takes to learn a foreign language. People claim that a second language only adds to the workload of students, and then furthermore adding stress and even anxiety.
Congested learning environment makes it difficult for students to focus on their education. Furthermore, it confines the amount of time instructors can spend on innovative teaching methods such as collaborative learning or group projects, and teaching anything beyond the minimum of mandatory course work is nearly impossible. Class sizes need to be cut down to a maximum of 18 students per classroom if our educational system is ever expected to progress. Once classes are smaller the benefits are vast; including better grades due to individual instruction, and enhanced communications skills Everyone will benefit from individual instruction as well as personal tutoring made possible by smaller class sizes. Since teachers will have more time to explain the material in various learning styles fewer children will fall behind in their studies.
When any adolescent enters High School they are still young and on the search to find themselves. High Schooler’s often make bad decisions, but quickly see that these mistakes there to be learning experiences rather than to dwell on them. Often, for many students, High School does not present an extreme amount of stress, rather it is a a place to learn more about yourself. Once college hits, stress is the only thing on the mind. College students are always worrying about if they did their homework, if they have a big test coming up, if they studied enough, and if they even have enough money to pay their bills.
Somehow, many students get frustrated at the beginning of the school year, since they disagree with the subjects they were given or because they just might not like the instructor designated. Students can comply as much as they want and still nothing will change in their intent to get better options. Meanwhile, in college is just another flow where students can enjoy their liberty from choosing their roommates to choosing their classes. But that’s not the only things college members can get advantage of. They have too much freedom that they can even choose the time they want to go to school, the number of classes they want to take and with whom they want to take them.
He also finds that most high schools focus too much on getting young adults ready for college. Another problem with high school is kids may be smart but do not excel during test taking, so the teacher does not see that kid as a smart student. This may lead to the teacher acting as if this student is not as intelligent as others. If a student picks up on that, which often happens, that student may think he is not as intelligent as the other kids. The child may wonder “what is the point of school, besides attendance?” (Baker 225) If a student has a positive outlook on his own intelligence, then that student may do better than if he thought he was intellectually behind his classmates.
As a future parent I would hate knowing that all my child is getting out of school is a bunch of right answers drilled into their head instead of having the chance to gain useful knowledge and grow. With that being said, knowing how much of a role standardized testing has taken in schools makes teaching a less desirable profession to get into. Being a teacher is all about growing the minds of students and inspiring them to gain the knowledge they need while making learning fun. All of that is impossible with they way things are now. Although schools have made many accomplishments and are far better than when they started out in the 1700s, there is still a good amount of change that still needs to happen.
They had the same teachers, the same textbooks, and same environment in school. I just worked harder than they did and I made better grades and higher standardized tests scores and that’s why I am here now. I do not think it would be fair to accept the students that did far worse than me in to college when they haven’t put the same amount of work as I have into it. Again, if everyone goes to college then soon people will all together stop trying in high school. Students will not work as hard, because they know they
In the academe, especially among pupils, deciding whether to cram or not has usually been difficult. It has already been adopted by students despite the consistent dissuading studies make. Although some students believe cramming saves time and lets them perform well, cramming actually wastes time and is not an effective learning tool in the long run. Students usually cram a few days before their tests or hours before their deadlines. As a result, they are forced to work faster than normal.
