Domain 3 focuses on my ability to instruct. I am not as clear as I should be this year. My expectations are clearly stated and portrayed, but not my directions. For instance, in 3a, I would normally lead my students through a lesson expressing my expectations, explain the directions, and put the directions on the board. However, this year I haven’t. I am spending too much time with the three new science teachers. Furthermore, my students are lower this year than they have been in previous years. So, even if my directions are clear, modeled, and guided too many students are not comprehending the expectations. I am going to have to work harder to write directions on the board, hopefully this will help more students to meet the expectations of all lessons.
I could have marked myself as distinguished for 3b, the questioning and discussion techniques component; however, that mark would only be truth for less than 1/2 of my students.

Initially, I must state the context within which I have been working. The school I am based in is situated in urban area with just over three hundred children present. I am working in a year two class, consisting of thirty children. There is a broad range of abilities that presents its own challenges across the class, there is four SEN children to consider. In the class two SEN children have one-to-one TA’s and one is working from a different timetable from the rest of the school. My elicitation topic was chosen because it was a subject theme that the children had not yet learnt: Body Systems- Skeletal System. I decided to plan for my three profile children plus another child who is very interested in science, this was intended to create
We believe that every student in our school is capable of learning and thinking at high levels. We will meet the academic and social/emotional needs of all of our students including students with disabilities, English language learners, high achievers, and struggling learners. We will challenge each student by providing a safe and nurturing learning environment that encourages self- expression and creativity, and by setting high expectation, utilizing rigorous, research-base...
For this lesson I still need to learn how to analyze instructional goals and differentiated instructional strategies. When I transfer to a university to further my education; in my educational classes I will learn about this. In addition to student teaching, I will be learning how to handle future situations with the appropriate grade level. Lastly, I will ask for advice from art teachers and teachers in general to find out more information on differentiated instructional strategies.

Sean has just been hired as an assistant in an after-school program for a group of 5-7 years old children. After his first day in the class, he was concerned about some of the activities the leader had set out for the children. Sean was familiar with the guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice and though some of the activities were not age appropriate. As an example, the children were expected to read and then follow the directions for a science project He wanted to say something to the group leader, but he thought that maybe he would just quit!
...er kids during extracurricular activities like joining clubs or playing sports. A child is going to need confidence, teamwork, and to know how to communicate whether it be with a speech or in any conversations that they might have with classmates and there is no way to replicate a classroom in a home.
The importance of having a curriculum that accommodates diverse learners, it allows the child to learn at their own level or ability. A child with emotional and intellectual challenges may not have the verbal or comprehension skills or the ability to control their body as their peers. With this in mind, classes with diverse learners can excel with an adjusted curriculum. An activity for example, using large Legos to teach the entire class their colors or numbers can help the intellectual challenge by asking to build a building by using on certain colors or amounts. By doing this activity the students can have fun and learn at the same time with using very little words. Also in a group activity the emoti...

Before the lesson is prepared, the teachers must have a clear understanding of the objectives of the lesson to be taught. By having an understanding of what they students will able to accomplish at the end of the lesson, the content remains focused and thorough. The teacher must then express these objectives to the students including the standards for performance. Students can then be held accountable for expectations that are known.
As a teacher it is important if not crucial to create a safe learning environment for students, especially students with disabilities. Most schools implement many services that are available in order to support students with mild-extreme disabilities without excluding them from the other students. The ‘least restrictive environment’ (educational psychology for learning and teaching) is an environment that is close to what students without disabilities learn in. However, depending on the severity of the disability, after school classes or sessions may be required. Depending on the primary school year level, some students may not even be aware that their fellow peer has a disability if the student has not been singled out as being disabled. To engage behavioural or disabled students in learning a good strategy is to accompany the main teacher with a teacher aide. In a class of 25 or so students, one teacher is not able to get around to each student individually. One-on-one interaction with student and teacher is highly beneficial with certain students. So, by having a teacher aide in the classroom the main teacher can work with the students who are able to work more independently
For Doman 1, planning and preparation, I believe that I demonstrate adequate skills. I work hard to make connections to my content knowledge with other subject areas through discussions with general education teachers for social studies and science curriculums (Danielson, 1996). As a special education teacher, I must have a full understanding of my students (Danielson, 1996). I design lessons that are the instructional match for my students, modify grade level curriculum, and accommodate for different learning styles. I also try to choose books that would be interesting to my students and create math story problems around the activities that students participate in. Assessing student learning is critical to monitor instruction and to report student progress accurately (Danielson, 1996). The development of this component was a goal of mine during the first semester of this school year. I feel that now, I have acc...

My stage of development would be proficient in all four domains and components of professional practice, however, few domains and components are my higher strength and the other areas are needed improvement. The four years of my teaching experience, I had the opportunity to be evaluated by my principle, and she used these four domains of professional practice. Through her expertise and suggestions, she provided guidance to develop and improve my skills in the stage of proficiency or to the expert stage. The classroom environment and professional responsibilities domains are my strength that I worked on past few years. Nevertheless, I am continually building more skills and foundation on components of planning and preparing for the content and instruction part. I work with different students need and learning styles every year, therefore I am continually learning the new strategies and information to help all my learners to success. Furthermore, I have been developing and working on improving in content, pedagogy, knowing student’s learning and self-knowledge areas. However, my weakness in knowledge areas is performing higher co...
