Personal Narrative: Why I Decided To Leave Ashburton, England

I do not know why I decided to leave Ashburton, England and go all the way to British North America with my sister’s family. Maybe it was because I wanted a fresh start. Also, it’s an experience to be able to live in the new world. Once we landed in Upper Canada and saw a glimpse of my new home-- my new farm, I knew it was too late to turn back now. The government assigned us a lot at the northernmost part of the land. Since my brother-in-law is severely injured, it was up to my sister, her seven year old son, and I to manage the whole place. We are a poor family. Clearing the land was one of the hardest tasks to complete. Once we got the land cleared, my family would be able to start planting seeds and build a house. To be honest, another reason why I came to Upper Canada was to find a man to marry. In England, it was kind of difficult. So far I have not met anyone that I am interested in but, that is one my goals in the near future. As the years progressed by, the farming industry changed.
