Personal Narrative: Walk Down The East Fork Carson River

Press Forward Twelve years ago, a local boy scout troop invited my husband and I to go on a 20-mile white water rafting run down the East Fork Carson River. I was nervous and excited, I had never been white water rafting before. My husband had been rafting before with the scouts when he was a young boy. This trip was going to be challenging, but if the scouts could do it we wouldn’t have a problem. We, however, underestimated the raw force of the river. The boy scouts troop chartered guides to float them down the river. The boys were on rafts while the leaders of the troop were on kayaks. The guides gave the scouts a quick overview of how to maneuver the raft, as well as some safety precautions while rafting. It seemed simple enough, the guide instructed them to paddle on one side or the other of the raft. By following the directions their course was altered. For those of us in kayaks, it wasn’t going to be that simple. We needed to think ahead of every turn in order to be prepared for what was ahead. The river was coming from the top of the mountain; it was snow melt; the water was freezing! Our kayak sat lower than the rafts in the icy water, this was going to be a challenge but we were willing to accept it.
The entry point on the river was in an L shape. The water went straight for only fifty feet where it then slammed into a jagged rock cliff. The water …show more content…

In life there is no turning around and overwriting what has already begun, no starting over. We just have to press forward in faith. In the end, we were able to arrive at our destination. Everyone survived and we now have a memory that we will never forget. The lessons that we learned from this particular trial are priceless. With the Lords help we can get through the difficult trials in our life, no matter how much we believe that we can’t. With faith, He will help us through, we just need to keep pressing
