Their was three minutes left in the third period. I was playing for a middle school team. We were winning 11-1, so we were expecting these last three minutes to be chippy. There team called a timeout, our team gathered up our coach told us to keep our heads up. The whistle blew and I skated out to the face off dot. I was the center, Jack Caldicott was the right winger, and Ian Koola was the left winger. The ref dropped the puck when I saw his hand move I hit the center's stick and then the puck. The center was definitely mad at me for hitting his stick. I went to the front of their goal to screen their goalie. All of the sudden the center hit me in the back, which didn’t hurt that much. The puck went to the corner the center was on my right
I was more than ready for the lacrosse game to begin, we were playing our biggest rival and the most physical team in our whole division. We were pumped, the air horn rang for the games to begin and they did. It was apparent that we were coming out on top, we scored three goals in under six minutes. We kept this up until the air horn blew to indicate half time and we were up by four. Soon enough I was back under the heat of the sun playing. Time was ticking down and we were only ahead by a one goal margin. Somehow, I got the ball all the way down and ready to shoot. In a blink of an eye, a girl swung her lacrosse stick, missing my stick, instead hitting my head. Rather than being escorted off the field because I was hit, I continued playing; this was a bad move on me.
I had eaten great all day and I was ready for hell. I got there and didn’t realize there were 100 kid trying out for 2 teams. Mikey and I started off by doing line drills and I wasn’t the best but I was doing what coach had asked everyone to do. I was the only one giving it 110%. Then long field passes were next. Again this was all new to me and I was just going with it. Thirty minutes into practice I felt a bump on my shoulder. It was coach Haven. He asked me, “Hey La Garsssa how long have you been playing lacrosse for? I responded with “oh you know 30mi…. he was shocked and wasn’t ready for the response. I did have great ball handling skills and I was working my ass
The scariest thing that I have ever experienced was dislocating my knee during my high school basketball game. While attending Forestview High in 2013 the second game of the season, I acquired my knee injury against Highland Tech. I was very excited about the game because I worked very hard to take a senior spot and was finally getting the opportunity that I was waiting for. Everyday during practice, I gave my all, all the blood, sweat, and tears that I experienced I just knew it was my time. Tuesday, November 22 we get to Highland, warm up, and finally it's time for tip-off. The first quarter I get off to a rough start getting all the jitters out. Second quarter arrives, then I began to get the feel of the game. As I penetrated down the lane after hitting a mean crossover, I came to a jump stop
I woke up in the morning ready for my fourth basketball game that week. I wasn’t really hungry so all I had for breakfast was a granola bar. We arrive at the game ready to play. I don’t what it was but I was I have never been so tired in a game before. The last quarter of the game is when it all happened. Me and number 0 went up for the rebound and her butt ran into my stomach really hard. I didn’t feel pain right away, it was more like something was pressing down on my stomach. I continued to play in the game for about a minute before the pain started to kick in. I told my coach to sit me out because I wasn’t feeling well. I sat on the bench squirming around and rubbing my stomach. My coach wanted me to walk the pain out
With the rest of the basketball girls from the surrounding area, I began summer basketball camp. There was a basketball tournament where we played 4 games in one day. During the game an opponent stole the ball, so I chased her down the court. Once I reached her under their basket, I tripped over her foot, fell, and heard something snap. I was absolutely freaking out. The referees ran down to me. All I could say was “Something popped! Something popped!” I couldn’t bend my leg at the knee, it was scary. I was brought to the main lobby to walk it off. I couldn’t bend my leg for two weeks.
My sophomore year of high school I played on the Junior Varsity volleyball team. We began preparing for the season by doing two-a-days the first week of August. We worked out hard the first two weeks then had our first scrimmage that next Friday. We won the scrimmage, but it was a pretty messy game. It was like we were all doing our best individually, but we were not working together as a team. The court was silent during each play and each time somebody messed up the rest of the team got mad at them.
It all started when I got on the Ice. I thought It was going to be another hockey practice...but I was wrong. This practice would end with a bloody mess. Let’s just say, I'm glad that the other catch from the other team was a doctor. My friends and I were messing around in the locker room while we were getting ready for practice. I like getting ready for hockey practice it normally is fun, or I at least just try to have fun. If we do the drill wrong, we have to skate ten laps around the rank, but the bad thing is it is an olympic rank so it is bigger then are normally rank.
Our team was excited to be in the finals. Luke and Pat talked before the game and decided they will try to work together. They are put on the same line as one of the team’s best defenseman, which is me. Luke and Pat start passing to each other more, and even though they didn’t score any goals by the end of the second period, they had a lot of chances. The Blazers had only scored one goal. In the third period, I got the puck and carried it over the red line and got it into scoring position for Luke. I made a great pass to him and he scored a goal to tie the game.
I have always been a tough and aggressive lacrosse player which is something other coaches and players know me to be. My highschool team played against the best team in the inter-ac who is coached by one the craziest and angriest coaches in lacrosse. Losing by a lot our team became desperate and anxious, I myself forced a pass into the 8 meter which the goalie intercepted. Out of anger at myself, my team, and the opposing team I failed to discipline my body and mind and was unable to control my anger. I chased the goalie of Agnes Irwin down with an illegal horizontal stick and fully extended my arms while at full speed sending her flying into my own teammate, leading the referees to give me a yellow card.
The first practice hit you hard we started off with sprints and that was awful people throwing up all around me and I can’t catch my breath but you keep pushing it. I think that was the turning point for me I knew that a lot of people looked at me like small kid that shouldn’t play but after beating them in sprints they saw I was not going to give up. Later on that season it was our 4 game in the season we were going up against Carbondale and we are only up by 6 on defense one of our players go down. I just got off the field on offense they said we need someone I ran to them said I will go in they gave me the nod. When I got on the field it was strange because I never played defense at the time I was just thinking just hit the kid with the ball and you will do fine. The ball snapped so I started back peddling and watching the line men to see if they fire off the line if so it was a run if they backed peddled it was a pass. They fired off the line it was a run so my next thought was where but at soon I was thinking that I saw the running back was coming my way so pushed the receiver off me so it was just me and him. It happen so fast the guy and try to make cut outside but I manage to stick my foot in the ground change direction to tackle him. When I looked up at the time
“If at first you don’t succeed try , try again.” At the age of six I was starting to play football. The game was a hard hitting running and commitment. I was six years old at the time now I’m fourteen a freshman in high school a lot has changed.
We took the field in the second half. We won the face off this time. We went down the field, shot the ball, and the goalie saved it. He threw the ball up to his forward right in front of me, and I stepped up and hit the kid to prevent him from getting the pass and scoring. When I hit him, he fell straight to the ground and I couldn’t see where the ball was. It bounced and went in the net. I was so embarrassed at that point.
The play was "Red 334"which is a run to our halfback, me, out of our dive series. I crouched over the ball as I jetted past the quarterback and ran the play so we could observe the changes we needed to make. I let out a sigh of relief because we were finished with the most dreaded part of practice; well, only until someone complained about not knowing their job on one of our pass plays. Coach Nelson undoubtedly decided we needed to run through the final pass play before we perfected our defense. The play was quietly called in the huddle with intentions of getting it right. I ran the play through my mind while I tried to remember what the snap count was and what I was supposed to do for that play. The ball was snapped and I jolted to the left of our team's quarterback to set up his backside protection. Out of my peripheral vision, I noticed the defensive end raging toward the quarterback. I intensely stepped into him while lowering my body and exploded through his shoulder pads sending him stumbling into the line's pass protection.
It was November 1st and it was the day of my last volleyball game. I ran into my friend Eri and we started talking about the game later that day. It was against Tunkhannock. They were the best volleyball team from our area, and wouldn’t you know it on our senior night we had to play against them. Senior night was the one night where the seniors were recognized, whether they were good or not. The whole day the team was joking about how much we would lose by against our rival team. In a game to fifteen we thought we would end up owing them points.
I started playing volleyball in seventh grade, and I had completely fallen in love with the sport. Growing up in a small town, our school always struggled to find coaches that were not related to players. In middle school, I would always be so angry that the important named kids got to play in the A team, while I was stuck in the corner with the B team. Eventually, eighth grade year I decided to join a club team, and increase my skill for freshman year. I enjoyed club, I had actually made the one team, and I had virtually no problems with anyone or anything that season. But, just as soon as freshman year rolled around my attitude changes a lot. I’ve gained the perfectionist trait from my mother, and with this mindset in a sport, you’re almost guaranteed to struggle. Freshman year I had just come off of club, so I knew so much more about the sport and its movements. Naturally I wanted to be perfect, I personally believe that I had done really well as a freshman, but when I messed up I became silent.
