My Future Goals: Feerngully The Last Rainforest

When I was a little girl, one of my favorite movies that my father and I would watch together was, “Ferngully The Last Rainforest”. That movie was so captivating that it kindled my passion for the planet and brought forth my “save the rainforest” mentality.
All my life, I always had an affinity for the well-being of the planet and its inhabitants. I felt I needed to play a role in the prosperity of the environment. In college, I studied graphic design so I can convey messages to others through aesthetics. Towards the end of my college career, I realized I want to be substantive in the messages I communicate. I know that I cannot fix the entire world, but if I can make a quantitative change, it would make all the difference to me.

Direct and indirect pressures from society create limitations in creativity and create a place of separation from human and non-human and place the focus on self-satisfaction rather than focus on altruism. I want to guide people on ways to live alongside nature instead of above it using the power of reciprocity as an aid. My future goals include exploring business possibilities using permaculture, bringing my charity project to fruition by teaching others how to live off of the land, and providing educational and volunteer opportunities for lower class families and schools. As a major key to success, I want to keep the aspects of the environment and sustainability in mind when starting any charity project. In a field like environmental leadership, you cannot use traditional education when you are working towards changing the tradition itself. Learning about building human-nature relationships as well as environmental justice and conflict resolution involves being more mindful about yourself and the world around you. Personally, I feel the need to train myself to connect with nature on a deeper level because in order to fully listen to nature, I feel that I would need to build a connection first. Using experiential academic context is beneficial in way that shows you how you would apply all that you have learned in a real world setting. I feel like this method gives me chances to problem solve using creativity and new perspectives to what I have learned. I am passionate about playing an integral role in raising awareness about environmental destruction and aid in changing the paradigm.
