Personal Narrative-Size My Rocket

If I had the chance to rebuild my rocket, I would change a couple of things. One aspect of my rocket I would change is that I would use an auto funnel instead of a paper nose cone. Many bottle rockets that were a success had an auto funnel so I would be curious to re-fly my rocket using an auto funnel to see if there is any chance of a better result. I cut up a medium sized eraser and put it at the tip of the paper nose cone to add weight. I would add more weight to the tip just to see the effects because I only used a small amount of erasers. Something I would keep is the shape of my fins. Instead of doing the typical triangular shaped fin, I designed more of an irregular shape and I think that helped me a lot. I also made the fin angled 2 cm to the right in order to cause a spin. The spin helped me go further and I am glad I made that modification to my rocket. My fin was made out of balsa wood rather than cardboard or regular wood. The balsa wood I used was very thick and sturdy rather than what other people used which is a thin balsa wood. This stayed on better when I hot glued it and it did not come off or move at all during the flight. …show more content…

They all did their design slightly different than mine but in the end we all got the same grade. One thing Nihar did different than me was that he used 5 cardboard fins, when I only used 2 balsa wood ones. Nihar’s bottle rocket had a great spiral and flew for a long time in the air. I think his worked well because the 5 fins caused it to fly far and for a longer time. His flew for 4.31 seconds and went very close to the school. Both our bottle rockets had balsa wood which may be why we had similar
