When considering my options for this event, I knew I had to choose something that involved me personally. While any topics in the sexual realm are newer to me, it is easier for me to separate myself from those experiences and focus on the individual discussing it over discussing it myself. When peers have conversations regarding sex, I am able to listen and even interact. However, if the conversation ever seems to turns towards me, I try to escape in order to avoid participating. My discomfort is the strongest when I think about myself or have to share about myself with others. Previous to this event, I have always considered doing this type of shoot. I never felt comfortable enough, and chose this opportunity almost as an excuse, or permission
Everything for a year had been leading up to this point and here I was in the middle of the happiest place on earth in tears because my friends had abandoned me in the middle of Disney on the senior trip.
As stated in the book, “college students have much to teach about sex” (8). That is because the values, ideologies, and worldviews of the students are representative of greater American culture. Although flawed, hookup culture on American campuses hold the possibility of accepting a culture of inclusivity, care, pleasure, and freedom while also rejecting predatory behavior, racism, classism, and abuse. Dismissing hookup culture all together is blind to the reality that young adults are going to have sex, and since sex is non-negotiable, one’s aim should be to foster open dialogue and critical thought onto a future where everyone enjoys the ability to freely explore sexuality, sex, and gender on their own
However, some adults think a few lines are hard to swallow. For example, Sophie, like any young woman, is starting to notice a change in the size of her breasts and decides to share some of her observations, “Sometimes on chilly nights I stand close to my bedroom window, unbutton my nightgown, and press my breasts against the cold glass just so I can see the amazing trick that my nipples can do” (Sones 46). This, along with a slight groping scene during her daydream, can be seen as inappropriate by concerned parents. Of course these adult situations are not the most comfortable thing to talk about, it is a natural body part that every young, female teen is getting used to at that time and it is more important to show young people that being curious about your body is okay because, “...some girls feel embarrassed…” (“How to Talk”). Young females should be encouraged to speak freely about their bodies if they do not understand something. Another example deals with a much darker scenario that most definitely should be talked about to teens, online predators. When Sophie was chatting with the guy that she had never met online, he started a conversation about what each person enjoys doing with their spare time. His response was, “I like to jerk off in libraries” (Sones 110). Sophie of course felt uncomfortable and blocked him immediately. Since the main character dealt with this issue
To provide a summation, I have learned a great deal about sexuality throughout this class and have utilized some of its teachings in order to help clarify my sexuality. While I have strayed away a bit in this essay about sexuality especially on Freud, I have tried incorporate their teachings into constructing my sexuality identity such as Foucault teaching of sexuality and power and Judith Butler’s sexuality and categories. Freud was just absurd however I will take advantage of these teachings utilized in class in order to constitute a more accurate representation of my sexual

However, I am concerned that not all participants will be completely honest and candid because of the stigma inherent in our society. Works Cited Castleman, Michael. A. The "All About Sex." 30 March 2009.

First time out of the wire and on patrol but not with first platoon, First Sergeant moved me to second platoon just the day before. At zero eight in the morning of the next day patrols started around the bazaar by the dismounted troops. I was coupled with the PL* and conducted familiarization patrols so that I could get eyes on the sector from the map that was issued to me the night we left. Take for example, my cousin had a certain type of party that has become pretty common now-a-days. I won’t drop any names but it entails certain battery operated devices commonly used in a romantic nature. A party like this is awkward enough as it is. So let’s take that and layer in my a bunch of people whom I have never met before and for fun, let’s talk about which vibrato...

There are lots of problems with night stands. People don’t understand that when you have a relationship with someone you are giving a part of yourself to them. The risks of contracting diseases are there, and people don’t like to think about this because they believe it can’t happen to them. They assume everyone is trustworthy, or simply don’t care. People have this notion that when someone catches a sexually transmitted disease they automatically stop having sex.
In high school, a boy made up a rumor that we had sex at a party. The rumor spread around, and no seemed to take my word over his; they said I was only denying it because of regret. The most frustrating part of it was that people were calling me a slut, and at the same time were congratulating him. This stems from the impossible double standard that women face when it comes to sex. Women are shamed for having and enjoying sex, yet the same behavior is expected and even celebrated in men. Terms like “whore” and “slut” are almost exclusively used on women, and there is no male equivalent. The shaming doesn’t come from society having a problem with sex but is a facet of how the patriarchy enforces male dominance over women. Some of the more dangerous aspects of patriarchy are the condoning of men asserting their dominance over women verbally and physically. Only a daily basis women have to deal with men thinking they have a right to touch us without an invitation, to say unprovoked and unwarranted sexual things to us; to call us “bitch” or a “tease” when we point out unacceptable behavior. When I worked a Café over the summer I had problems with a man who would come in and make me uncomfortable; when we were alone in the café he would approach my cash and tell me about how he could use his phone to turn off the Café’s security camera’s. He would
During my freshman year of college, I had met one of my best friends, who go by name Jill. (She lives in New Jersey and while I live in Pennsylvania) I found it to be strange that sometimes, it feels like we have grown up with one another but in reality we have only one another for four years and I couldn’t be more thankful. I can remember when we met at school as if it was yesterday.
