As the years passed by my life has become easier. I had joined many diverse sports. Out of the many, the two I most enjoyed were gymnastics and ice hockey. I was introduced to gymnastics when the doctor expressed that I had scoliosis. He suggested I joined a sport such as gymnastics to repair my back. Ever since then, I have been a gymnast for twelve
I figured that I had grown about five inches since my freshman year and had gotten stronger it might be time to play basketball competitively once more. When November rolled around I was on the varsity team, but unfortunately my basketball skills was not up to par. It was tough at first, because I was a new face on the team, and the guys on the team had a great chemistry that they had built up throughout the years. After a few weeks had rolled by, I realized that I would not be in the rotation.I told myself that the team’s success is more important than my personal desired statistics.I decided to make the most of my role on the team. It was a tradition for the guys who were not in the rotation to contribute to the game in some way, guys did this by preforming stunts after significant plays and momentum shifts in the game in our favor. This was great because the crowd loved and it and more importantly my teammates fed off of the
With each passing year, what I eat and how often I exercise becomes more important. As an airline pilot it can often be difficult to find the right choices of food while at work. Most airports are littered with fast food and unhealthy food choices. It is your personal responsibility as a professional aviator to plan ahead or search for healthy food alternatives.
My fitness background is fairly limited. I have never enjoyed physical activity. In high school, I needed two years of physical education. I participated in the school marching band for four years. Since being in college, I have tried on several occasions to start and maintain a workout regime. Typically I start strong for a week or two. Recently I have been making an effort to workout at least once a week with my mom, outside of taking this yoga class. My usual workout consists of walking on a treadmill for 20 minutes, riding the bike for 10 minutes, 3 reps of 10 back curls, 3 reps of 10 crunches and 3 reps of 10 abdominal rows.
Four months ago in May, I began my fitness journey. Now let me be completely honest, I wasn’t a first timer at all, and I was not where near a professional. I was that person that seriously began one every new year and never ever kept to it. My thoughts were that by summer I would be fit and toned, but we all know that when summer rolled around that was not the feeling. My weight was a constant yo-yo, it ranged something like this 125, 120, 118, 122, 119, or 124. It was never the same for long. Then the worst happened in January of 2015, my ACL decided to give along with my meniscus. I then had surgery by February and no walking until April. THREE months in bed!! During February, March, and April I was at the worst time in my life, just ready
Throughout my life, I had always received recognition for being very agile and quick. My first day of Middle School consisted of the track and field coach attempting to persuade me to join the school’s athletics program. I had previously never been apart of an athletics team, and was willing to take advantage of the opportunity. Throughout my three years of middle school, I was the one consistent member of the school’s track and field team and had an overall successful personal record. Coaches from opposing school would praise me leaving me feeling very confident about myself.
After playing three years in the recreational league, I naively believed that my stud-like skills were needed for bigger and better things. Unfortunately, no one told me that I would be the shortest girl at the travel team tryout, by at least 5 inches. Needless to say, I did not make the cut; however, that did not stop me from trying out again, and again, and again. I could not wrap my 11-year-old mind around why I was not qualified to earn a spot on the team. I was the go-to-girl in the recreational league. Heck, I was voted MVP every year.
Maybe it’s the fact that I tend to stay in my room all weekend, which leads to people thinking I’m studying when in reality I am probably binge watching a TV show or maybe it’s my glasses, but most people who don’t know me too well assume that I am smart. Now that is a great thing for me because I don’t have to try as hard to impress them, but I end up finding myself in a bit of a problem. The problem is that everyone thinks I enjoy admiring school textbooks. But the truth is I’m usually admiring my Justin Bieber poster on my bedroom wall. Ever since I was in sixth grade I’ve been a huge fan of Bieber. His music always brought a feeling of calmness and back in the day his “never say never” motto, was what I lived by. I might still be living by that motto because I’ve decided to write this essay
As a young girl, like many other children my age, I had huge amounts of energy; my parents agreed that they should attempt to harness some of my energy by getting me into sports. I was an adventurous child so I was up for anything and more than willing to try participating in sports. From the first day, I began playing I knew that being involved in sports was something that I was going to love. Throughout my childhood I played a variety of different sports: soccer, gymnastics, basketball, tennis, swimming, etc. You name it, I tried it. I was happy to take part in any and all of them; my only problem was that I was a klutz, so I was constantly getting hurt in these various athletic activities. Being an athlete and a klutz was a blessing in disguise though. It helped me find something that to this day I am still passionate about.
Art has been apart of who I am for as long as I remember, and wanting to go to FIT goes back just as long. There was a time where I lost my way when it came to art and wanted to do something that was more "conventional", but my passion for something I've done all my life was something I just couldn't dismiss. My grandma lives down the street from FIT and growing up, I'd pass the building and tell her, "Mamita, I'm going to go to that school when I grow up." Applying here is to keep that promise and that dream that drove me to grow as an artist alive. Going to college and taking that next step in pushing my current abilities is a really important milestone for me. Moving from traditional drawing on lined pieces of paper at age 5 to digitally
