I have been working as a vocational representative at RHA, Health Services for almost 3 months and state auditors entered my door to conduct a survey of all financial records, documentation and viewing some of my consumer’s at work this provides objective information to the state of North Carolina about state financial records and the performance of our non-profit vocational center. My first leadership role and I suddenly had employees who needed a leader. And it was me! I provided a framework for our vocational center to serve as a ready reference to state auditors. I did my best to create a positive environment for all vocational workers and communicate a clear vision for our team in assisting individuals with disabilities to accomplish their
I have 2 years and 11 month as a Correctional Sergeant. In that time my experiences as a correctional sergeant has been both as an area supervisor for adult and youth offender programs section, segregation and a shift supervisor. As an area supervisor I have had to handle many different inmate issues to include but not limited to the following: conducting inmate disciplinary, handling inmate grievances, inmate property, inmate classifications, and disruptive inmates. As an area supervisor I was also in charge of many officers where I had to train and develop their skills being that most of them had under a year experience. In 2015 I was hand selected by both the Associated Warden and Warden to take over segregation to clean up the problems that were occurring in segregation.
notices to patients and their families, schedule and lead the meetings. Wishing to be actively involved in the process, I represented nursing along with the charge nurse of the unit and the charge aide.
...ior was unprofessional and unethical as well as a potential liability, I’m sure she would have changed it. I considered confronting her about it, but did not want to avoid perception as oversensitive and lacking the same humor as my male peers. Company documentation included a sexual harassment policy, but the leader failed to connect her own behavior. Also, adopting a transformational leadership style might have been effective for this company with a focus on ethical leadership and employee feedback. Finally, email etiquette and professionalism should have been trained and adopted, while policy enforcement would have ensured this. Unfortunately, this writing does not include any positive experiences working for this company. Perhaps there would have been more had I been able to share insight after learning about some of the benefits of effective leadership.
I am not born with a silver spoon on my mouth to host a feeding program nor offer scholarships to others. I am just a college student. However, KINDLE, one of Rotaract Club's program, made me realize that we do not need to be rich in order to be of service to others. We could always help, if we truly want to. Afterall, money is just one of the million ways to
This past summer, I received a set of keys, a radio, and a name tag that read “Supervisor.” This was my third year working at the waterpark where I advanced from lifeguard to lead lifeguard and finally into a management position. I was now the youngest administrator in the operations department. Walking into work the first morning in my new uniform, the lifeguards looked surprised. Most of them were older than me and apprehensive about a boss who seemed so young. Initially, they spoke to me in a condescending tone and passively refused to complete any of the tasks I requested. When I politely asked a group of lifeguards to clean and straighten a section of the park after we had closed, the area was still in disarray when I

Over the last six years, I have really looked up to my clinic director, or the “big boss.” It didn’t take too long after I started working to realize that I wanted to be in her position one day. She is the best example of using interpersonal communication in the workplace. “Health communication encompasses the study and use of communication strategies to inform and influence individual and community decisions that enhance health” (Healthy People). There are many forms of communication strategies that one can use in a healthcare environment when dealing with different challenges and also in gaining skills. Healthcare is much more than being a caretaker and/or a caregiver. Aside from the all the doctors, nurses, and medical staff, there are receptionists, medical records, finance, coders, and various other administrative roles throughout a healthcare organi...
I had applied for a job at Catholic Guardian society; in 2001 I did get the job. It was working with young girls in a group home, place there by the court. A group home is a place that children are sent to, once in foster care. A child can be in a group homes for many reasons; such as running away from home, not going to school and getting being arrested. I work every shift that was allowed, sometime doing doubles. When I started the job, I learn my way around fast. My partner was Michelle S.; she was great she began working there three years before me. Our primary job was to ensure the safety of these girls; their age would range from twelve through twenty-one. Our supervisor was great or so I thought. I soon realized that she was a horrible
This career option as an assessment employer for the child protective services could possibly be a long-term career option. Although, I do not believe I would want this as my long-term career goal. Choosing to work directly out of college would also allow myself to gain experience within the field which would improve the possibility of getting a better job or getting into graduate school. If I was hired and I did accept the position within five years my goal would be to continue working while attending school to further mu education. I would continue to work to gain more experience as well as helping me get through school by paying off my tuition. I would not leave this job until I graduate and had another job lined up.
I did not become employed there by accident. I was working at another hospital in the area and had a horrible night at work, and had multiple issues that occurred throughout the evening. The following morning when the day shift came in to take over for us, a physician came in and was unpleasant to the night staff; he berated every one of us for everything that had gone wrong in his life. It was the most embarrassing and humiliating experiences that I have ever been a part of or witnessed. I was walking out to my car that morning, crying and probably as mad as I can remember ever being. I knew that there was more to his anger than what he came in and accused us of. I sat in my car for several minutes and began to pray to God for this man, his temper, and his patients. I never prayed for me, I asked God for guidance for my future. I needed to be shown where I needed to start over and have a new beginning. I found my way to Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA). I have been a stakeholder there for the last eight years, and am completely on board with the policies and the organization’s commitment to me as a stakeholder, student, and member of the community. With that being said, that does not mean that I agree with everything that takes place there. Although, going through this program, I understand more now than I ever did before. We
Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
Since I was little I have always known that I did not want a desk job. I have always loved using my hands to build things or to solve problems. But I didn’t like the idea of a construction job, or standing in a plant and watching things go down an assembly line. I wanted something that would keep me on my toes, as in different every day, and allowed me to do something that I could see the result of my work soon after. I just couldn’t find the right job; nothing sounded good to me. That was until one day my dad needed help with some wiring in an extension we were doing to my house. I thought that it was kind of fun. It was cool to me that we could install lights, switches, and outlets. So, from then on I decided that I would like to
I immigrated from South Africa in 1991. My original plan was not really to immigrate, but to come to the United States for a couple of years to gain work experience and pay off student loan debt. The US government had a list of professions at the time, in which it needed professionals. They issued work permits and HIB-Visas to foreigners to fills these gaps in the states. My chosen profession of Occupational Therapy was on the list, which made the process much easier. I planned to return home to South Africa after two years. The value of the US Dollar at the time was about R3.00 and so earning money in dollars helped me pay off my student loans much more quickly.
There is a point in everyone’s life when they step back and realize “I can’t do this anymore, it’s ruining my life”. Many of my friends have started smoking cigarettes while drinking at a very young age, and continue to use this drug currently and don’t realize the affect it has on their future. While I have been smart enough to avoid smoking, I haven’t been as wise at making decisions when it comes to drinking. The amount of partying I’ve done in college has taken over my life, and has had a huge impact on my grades. Changing my drinking habits and continuing to avoid cigarettes will enable me to be the best I can be for the rest of my college experience.
I was involved in a situation where leadership was ineffective by my director of obstetrics. The topic involved our hiring policy. We had multiple candidates for a nursing position. Due to staffing shortages, this position need filled as soon as possible. My role was assistant nurse manager on night shift. It was myself, the other night shift assistant manager, and our director present for the interview. We had a candidate apply that had a few years of post partum experience, and I worked with her in the past at another facility, though did not recommend her. I kept my opinion quiet, because I always want to be fair. The interview started and was not going well. The candidate did not answer questions well, nor did she look at us in the eyes. She was dressed sloppy and did not possess any professionalism. Towards the end of the interview, the director started to ask when she could start, the compensation, and continued to give her a tour of the unit. The other assistant manager and I could not believe what we were seeing. The director hired her on the spot. This leadership was ineffective in a variety of different ways.
