Can you Bear it? For two consecutive summers I went to Copper Mountain, Colorado. A village feeling area of Colorado. I would go with my family, which includes my mother, my father, my brother and sister and my grandparents. My grandparents would rent a condo for my family and we would stay for one week. While we were there we relaxed and did as many engaging things as we could. I understand why my grandma and grandpa loved taking us. The summers that I went to Copper Mountain are summers that I will never forget. Before relaxing at Copper Mountain, you had to get to Copper Mountain. For my family, we took an eight hour car ride, which we had to wake up early for to begin. We would leave by 5:00 in the morning. I wouldn’t say the car rides
Zig-zag, back and forth, down, down, down, Jonathon, Dad, and I went into a mysterious new world. Now that I have gone into this hot, dry canyon surrounded by monstrous hoodoos, I have seen what it is really like to leave the small town of Seymour, and emerge into the greatness of this world. I have now seen several other National Parks on one of the most renowned places on earth for mysterious creations, the Colorado Plateau. Of all the beautiful places on it, even the Grand Canyon, I have found my favorite one. Bryce Canyon National Park. I thought it was amazing, because it was the most diverse to anything I have ever seen before. We hiked down into it and I felt like I was surrounded by skyscrapers. We trekked around a little, but we didn’t
It was a hot summer morning. Sophie and I hopped into the van as Kevin drove us to go hiking with Arnold, Justin, and Jen. My ears were pleased as Jen started singing with her mellifluous voice even though there were a lot of mondegreen. Her ethereal, angelic appearance never ceases to amaze me. Arnold started singing along, but his voice was so horrible that the car immediately filled with cachinnation. I fell asleep during the long ride and had a dream that I was watching anime when a dove landed on my shoulder. It made me feel at peace, but I woke up from Arnold’s lamprophony. After we arrived to Castle Rock State Park, we read a map since it was our first time there. We started the hike in the hot, blazing sun. I was already sweating even
The endless horizon that spreads out across the sea of barren rock and sand. The miles of multicolored stone is cleanly accented by the deep blue horizon. They air at the top whips around in an unrelenting force, swirling around you until it is the constant factor that you become use to. The air at the top would lead you to believe that it is a fall morning. For it is cool and crisp allowing you to see the puffs of air as you get your first glimpse at the vast openness of the Grand Canyon. As you walk the air slowly dies down until you become aware of the hot dry air that you are surrounded by and breathing in. At rest stops, you can smell the putrid odor of the mule dung that lays in the middle of the trail. As you walk down, you can hear
I believe that strong determination and a firm will to reach ones goal can get anybody past the obstacles and adversity that stand in the way between them and their goals. As a climber and adventurist, I have climbed many mountains and peaks at substantially high altitudes but naturally I longed to someday climb the king of all peaks, Mount. Everest. As the years walked by me and more alpine explorers started successfully summiting everest, I had this urge and this absolute crave to one day do this feat. myself.
As a child, vacations were few and far between. Having three other siblings and a single parent, trips rarely fit into the budget. As I got older, military service and my professional career allowed me to travel to a variety of places. I have been to the east and west coasts, the Gulf of Mexico, Bermuda, United Kingdom, Germany, and many places in between. However, my most memorable trip was to Fairbanks, Alaska to visit my oldest brother Keith. While I was there the sun shined for approximately twenty hours a day, the mosquitos were unlike anything I had ever experienced, and we went fishing on the Yukon River.
I almost fell off a cliff on the side of a mountain. I was in Pitkin, Colorado, on a camping trip during the summer of 2009. The trees were green, the air was fresh so were the lakes, rivers, and ponds were stocked with fish and wildlife was everywhere. Usually, on these camping trips, I would be accompanied by a large number of people. However, this time, it was just my parents, my three brothers, and my two sisters. I was almost 12 years old at the time and having three older brothers made me very competitive. Naturally, when my family decided to climb one of the mountain’s which were around us, I wanted to be the first one to reach its peak.
Have you ever had a dream about being lost in a desert? I have, and I can tell you that not only was it a dream, but it was the absolute worst nightmare I have ever had! Imagine being surrounded by nothing but sand and not having a constant source of water to stay hydrated! Just the name alone has the power to intimidate even the strongest of adventurers. These were my thoughts when I found out I would be going on a field trip through time in Death Valley.
The trip of a lifetime October 17th Hi my name is Nick Wolhafe and this is my first journal entry. I'm in 9th grade. Me and my class have been given the opportunity to go and climb Mount Everest . It's a very risky trip and you have to be fit and ready.
When I was about four years old, my dad brought me to our local Honda shop. I marveled at the powerful machines while walking the showroom floor and found the row of small children’s motorcycles. I promptly chose my favorite bike and pushed it over. Whether this was an accident or not will never be known. We ended up leaving with the small dirt bike, and my lifelong obsession had begun.
My favorite family vacation happened when we went to Disney. I spent a lot of time with my family and friends. I also went to Harry Potter World. My favorite pictures I got there were my ones with Peter Pan, and the conductor
“Hey!” My brother, Srikar, exclaimed one fine morning, “We should partake in a road trip to Niagara Falls, then from there, we can include a self-guided tour of Washington D. C.” I supported that idea because I portrayed it as the best, most logical, but my parents, good lord, they had different ideas.
I have been blessed with a family that can go on a lot of vacations. I have been able to go to places like Aruba, Mexico, Disney, and Universal. There have always been two vacations that I have wanted to go on and never gotten the chance. Those two vacations are a trip to the Grand Canyon, and to the Caribbean. Now I have to decide which vacation I would go on if I had to choose.
Going on a road trip with my family means the world to me. We drove to another state during summer vacation, and it was by far the best road trip I have ever been on. My family and I were able to go to many fun places. We ate so many exotic and delicious foods as well. Yet most importantly, I spent time with my family and their friends. It was the day when my family and I went to California for our summer vacation.
One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
My most memorable family vacation took place two years ago. We went to Corsica, a French island situated in the south of France right next to Italy. I remembered waking up early excited to visit this new land. Used to take long flights, I was surprised to arrive to the destination after a one-hour flight. Even though the flight was short for me, it was stressful for my mom, she has never felt secured in a plane, probably due to the fact that she is afraid of height. When finally arrived at the destination, the dry and warm weather was there to welcome us. We all felt relief, and knew that this was the beginning of the summer. Excited, we had a lot of activities planned for the few weeks, me and my father could not wait to dive in the clear
