Personal Narrative: My Journey Into The National Honor Society

My mother calls me her miracle child, for 13 years she had been told by several different doctors that she would be unable to have children, but here we are 17 years later, in Dallas, Texas on April 23, 1999 I was born to Steven and Lori Wood. My family consists of one brother his wife and daughter. I have faint memories of my childhood; I remember always being a respectful well-behaved child. I was never a troublemaker, nor was an angel, but on occasion I could be caught messing up here and there, as normal kids do. From a very young age my parents taught me the values in life that eventually shaped me into the young man I am today. I am basically what you would consider your average small town kid. In elementary I did not have many friends I had always been surrounded by adults and my significantly older cousins. Whenever I entered junior high I started to come out of my shell more and developed friendships. When I entered the eleventh grade, I had the honor of being inducted into the National Honor Society. This organization gave me many opportunities to serve my community, which I greatly enjoyed. I had the privilege of going to the Dallas Food Bank and packing canned goods into boxes for the less fortunate families. I also had the opportunity to go on a trip called Toys for Tots at Christmas time. This is a program that the police and fire department assist with. We were paired with a child and took them shopping for presents for their families and they got to shop for items they wanted. If it was not for this program, they might not have received any gifts for Christmas that year. Projects such as these taught me the importance of serving your community whenever the opportunity arises. I wish I were able to participate in more community service projects. I have had many experiences and got some great opportunities in my lifetime. I have got the privilege to participate in prestige programs such as the National Honor
