I am most proud earning my Girl Scout Gold Award for informing 1,000,000 people about Trisomy X. This was a multi-year project during a time in which I was taking AP classes, playing varsity volleyball and starting up and leading a new club at my high school. Because this was such a busy time in my life, I was forced to learn how to manage my time and prioritize tasks. This campaign helped improve my project management skills as I always had many moving parts that I had to organize and keep track of. Additionally, much of the work to achieve my goal was done by others that I led. I had actors for a video, a marketing consultant, a librarian, a health educator and many others working on my "team". Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout has been one of my greatest accomplishments of my life. Getting my Eagle Scout has given me three great benefits; the first one is many life skills, benefits while applying for a job, and people look up to me as an Eagle Scout. Getting this award has been a great honor and has taught me many of the life skills needed to be successful in today’s modern society.
Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout is one of the most challenging accomplishments that I have completed in my life. The journey started when I was around the age of ten in the fifth grade. My friends were involved in the program and so the natural decision for me to make was to join them in what they were doing because it seemed fun. As I grew I remained involved with the scouting lifestyle and went to the meetings, events, and projects that were a part of the program. Looking back at the past four years, I find this statement to hold especially true. After flipping through my high school yearbooks, I recall the memories of the time spent at Berks Catholic. For me, high school has been a roller coaster of experiences, good and bad. Walking up dilapidated stairs, my friend and I enter into the chapter room of Beta Sigma Psi, where the Little Sisters of the Gold Rose meets every week. The fraternity house smells of stale beer and sweat, and has clear signs of past parties and shenanigans. However, we have officially become activated members of the service sorority and were attending our first chapter meeting with the entire sorority. In that chapter room we discussed future service events, volunteering opportunities, and then went around the room for anyone to share news and announcements with the group. Ever since I joined scouting as a Senior Webelo, I wanted to become an Eagle Scout. I started my journey by obtaining my Arrow of Light, then bridged as soon as I could to Troop 0713 located at American Martyr’s church in Manhattan Beach. Now at age 14 and going into tenth grade, I stand on the brink of success regarding my Eagle Scout award after years of hard work and determination.
A Positive of the experience I saw the amount of people who came to Aid the drive. This is because I thought many people would not answer the call to service the less fortunate shortly before Thanksgiving. I also felt a positive impact when I saw many fellow pallotti students at the food drive. This is because I did not expect student to be willing to serve the community and give up time in their morning to serve the less fortunate as well. Another experience I had was when I was labeling letters for seabury. This was because I saw the amount of people that this organization was aiding and who i was aiding through providing service.
Since starting high school, several of my teachers have made us do large projects. I remember my junior year of high school, my biology two teacher assigned us a museum project. We had to go to different places and collect leaves. Not only did we need the leaves, we had to press them and label certain parts of them. I remember that one of the items was a lima bean. Not only did you have the lima bean, but you had to grow it so that it showed the different parts of it. It was a fun project because you weren’t just sitting at your computer all day, you actually had to get out of the house and go find these leaves. ...
When I volunteered at the Boys & Girls club, there was these group of girls who were friends but then an hour later one of the girls were crying for whatever reason. One day two of the girls came up to me looking distressed; they said that the others were making fun and talking behind their backs. When they told me this it remind of a time back when I was younger and I had the same issue, the only difference was being who I was I let them walk all over me and I didn't want that for these girls. I gathered these girls together and just tell them to speak to one another, get what you say off your chest, free yourself, after I told them this they just started talking and saying what problems they had with each other. One of the most meaningful achievements that I have recently participating in was dedicating six months of planning and time into a civil engagement project that have impacted families during the holiday season. With a group of individuals who are willing to make a difference in our community, the amount of efforts that were contributed into the task created a lifetime worth of memories in the lives of the mothers and children who came to the event. Throughout the event, it was rewarding to see smiles on the faces of the mothers while watching their children play Christmas-themed carnival games and enjoying the activities that were planned the team. Personal Narrative- Marching Band Competition This season was only the second year that I had been in marching band, even though we did do parades in middle school. The year before, I was selected to be drum major of the upcoming marching season. I was excited to meet the challenge of getting back to the state championships. It was also nerve-racking because I felt if we didn't make it to state, it would be my fault.
In the beginning of To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout can be described as a young, immature, and curious tomboy who has many lessons to learn about life. By the end of the novel, Scout transforms into a mature young adult and learns to face all the harsh situations she has to go throughout her childhood. After each experience, Scout discovers new interpretations that change her understanding of people overall, and how to deal with certain people. I too have had my fair share of mistakes which led into me learning valuable life lessons. Life lessons learned during childhood shape your personality and the person you grow up to be.
I faced many challenges while working on this project. Luckily, time was not one of them. The constructing of this project took me about a total of approximately eighteen hours to complete (give or take a few), obviously spread out during three weekends and a couple weekdays. Eighteen hours is a very, very rough estimate. There were days I worked for the whole day and some where I worked for a couple of hours. My parents helped me very much in the process. They understood that I had to complete this on my own, but when I was stuck or needed help, we bounced ideas off each other, which was very helpful to get my creative juices flowing.
A million thoughts ran through my head when they called my name. I can remember thinking ‘Me? Is that my name? Did they call my name? I don’t believe it.
