Last summer I started a daycare called sugar and spice. It was fun being around kids playing and laughing all day, not your typical job. Getting this job was exciting because it was my first job. I worked for that daycare for about 4 ½ month close to five. When I tell you it was the best experience as a first job ever, the children were funny and outgoing always put a smile on my face. I liked working there because of the paychecks; they were four hundred dollars every two weeks. I use to be in the mall every week with my friends, spending money and having fun. Unfortunaly the job ended and I was back unemployed. I was upset because I was going to miss being around those kids and the checks I received. Seven months later I started another job …show more content…
Some of the food items we had on the menu could change because they were seasonal. You also had to carry drink and food on trays, if you didn’t carry them the right way you’ll have an accident and it would be pretty embarrassing to drop everything on the trays. I remember taking drinks to a table and a little kid was moving around while I was passing them out and a glass of ice water fell on the kid, I was so nerves because rule number one in serving is to never drop anything on the guests. The mother yelled at the kid and told me it wasn’t my fault and that made me feel a little better, I mopped the water up as quick as possible then went on with taking there …show more content…
I hated that so much like why should I be washing dishes, making shakes, and going to the register to cash the guest out. That was over work with little pay, I felt that wasn’t fair, life isn’t fair so I had to get over that. Then in the process of still working at steak n shake I got hired at tjmaxx. I was determined to get hired they I call every day, they finally set me up for an interview I was extremely happy. At my interview they asked me a couple questions and the general manger said you know what we usually do two interviews but I’m going to hire you now. I loved working at tjmaxx because I got to wear anything I want and I was around things l loved clothes, jewelry and much more. Retail stores can get hard because you’re on your feet the whole time. If customers ask you to help them look for something it’s your job to help them and tell them where everything is. I hated doing a lot of things at once when I was working at tjmaxx I would be doing one task and they’ll call me to do another one ,that use to make me mad because I like to finish one thing before I start another one. Having those 15 minute breaks I loved so much you get to go in the crew room and chill, sometimes the general managers even brought food. I actually found love in working throughout these two years of working, they hasn’t been the best but it taught me a lot
However, I ended up getting hired at the Walmart distribution center, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Although we still have to live paycheck to paycheck, we can now manage to pay the bills and put food on the table without as much stress as before.
After few months in retail experience, she was also able to get a second with in the same Mall. According to her, both are the best job she ever had, and she enjoys every part of
late to have any chance of getting the job. So I walked into the local
A lot of people say that working at McDonalds is easy and it is just flipping burgers. From a customer’s point of view it’s “easy” and we should not struggle, what most people don’t realizes is that this job is really stressful and there are many obstacles to work around. I’m here to tell you that there is a lot more to working there as a crew and a manager! As a manager I never know if my crew are going to call out or just not show up. On a daily basis the possibility of being yelled at and belittled is great and it is going to happen by someone that comes through in a bad mood and it will just ruin your whole day, but you cannot let it affect your attitude with other customers.
When it comes to starting a new job you never know what to expect. Luckily for me, I stumbled into a great situation when I accepted my job offer at Brown’s Distributing. Since I have began working for Brown’s, it is as though my life has become so much simpler. My overall work conditions have become that of something I do not mind attending every day. Moreover, I can say that I finally have a hint of stability in my life and have began somewhat of a routine.
When I am on register, my managers tell me when it is time to take my lunch. If I need to step off for minute to run to the bathroom or quench my thirst, I need to ask a manager. Being a cashier is a repetitive job- scan, scan, bag, bag- for four to seven hours at a time. It is easy to get frustrated; customers constantly are rude and moody. A lot of the times customers
I decided to move to The Outer Banks of North Carolina for the Summer to lend aid to my grandparents who live a five minute walk away for the local Harris Teeter, through living there I was able to become a full time employee. As a cashier in a high stress vacation destination I was faced with many hurdles to jump. The largest of these was the large number of customers that came through the understaffed front end of the store. In an eight and a half hour, Saturday, shift I could expect upward of five hundred customers to come through my lane. Due to the fact that we were short handed an average check out would consist of scanning the customer's groceries, managing tender, and finally bagging the order.
What aspects of restaurant work are especially challenging to wait staff, and how does Barcelona’s approach to management help employees overcome the downsides of the job? The aspects of restaurant work that is especially challenging to wait staff would be poor management and customer satisfaction. In this profession of being a wait staff in many instances it is very difficult to please everyone one that you serve. The approach that Barcelona’s management took in helping their employees overcome the downsides of their job they gave them the green light in allowing them to do what was right in making the customers experience a happy one. In giving them this freedom, it made the wait staff feel like they were a part of the organization when it came to decision
During my freshman year of college, 2015-2016, I worked at my first job, Kroger. I was never a cashier, nor a stocker, I had the privilege of working in the bakery, and the Deli. I only worked in the bakery for about a month and had I stayed any longer I would have quit. I learned three things about work during those nine months; do not sign up for a union if you only view the job as temporary work, good coworkers are gold and can make any job bearable, at least for nine months, and managers are useless nuisances that exist to impede work. The last point is not just an emotionally charged claim fueled by one poor experience with a manager at one company, The novel Nickel and Dimed by Ehrenreich and the movie Office Space support the idea that
and I truly enjoyed what I was doing - for the time being. The restaurant that I worked at was not a traditional sit down and be served type of joint. Customers would approach the cash registers, place their orders, and wait for the food to be delivered to them. After they placed their order they were in charge of getting their utensils, drinks, and napkins.
Growing up all my friends had perfect jobs for teenagers. As a teenager, I spent a lot of time applying for jobs and searching for places to work because money didn’t come easy and I wanted to be in control of my own money. But I could never score a job. I applied to at least 100 jobs at least twice and I still couldn’t get an opportunity.
As a child I always loved money I would always ask my mom and other family members if they needed me to do anything around the house for a quick buck. I wasn’t the best with money, when I was small and got enough money for pokemon cards I would always spend it. I never thought of saving for the future or if I saved a little more I could get the mega pack with more than double the cards all of this didn’t matter to me I just wanted to spend. As I matured over the years I got better with money I still wasn't great with it but matured a lot and that helped my spending habits, until I got my first job. I didn’t really want to work but my mom made me get a job little did I know at the time but it would change me for the better.
According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, in July 2016, 20.5 million people ages sixteen to twenty-four years old were employed. I was lucky enough to be one of those people. Being one of those people gave me the chance to experience several life skills. Over the course of a year, obtaining my first job gave me the opportunity to learn about applying, beginning, and progressing.
I worked in a restaurant for over two years, I worked multiple positions from hostess to busser to food runner. In this job I grew, I learned how to communicate with rude customers. Although it was hard to not defend myself or get upset, I had to be calm and have patience. I learned how to communicate with my coworkers in order for nothing to go wrong. As a team, you need to work together, it helps make everything flow more easily and is less stressful.
It was a clothing store for children. I enjoyed the job I had in the beginning; all I did was open up boxes and place the clothes in the racks so the store associates could hang them up on the store racks. I enjoyed the job because I did not have to deal with the customers that came into the store. In addition, when viewing what I value in the workplace, I realized that I find intellectual stimulation, security, and economic rewards to be the most important values.
