Personal Narrative: My First Football Spot

Have you ever been put in a position you don’t feel you deserve? If you have then you’re wrong. Whoever put you there sees you have the potential to fill that spot. That’s why you were put there in the first place. I was put in this spot my freshman year of football. The key to filling that spot is taking your opportunities, giving your best effort, and working to fill the spot with ambition and belief. My coaches started me at tight end on B-Team my freshman year. This didn’t come to a surprise to me because I felt I earned that spot over anybody else competing with me. But that wasn’t my worry. My worry was how I would perform in a game setting. I was nervous, anxious, and extremely doubtful of myself. I knew this mindset could not work and would start to affect the way I played in the long run. I told myself that his had to change. I tried to see things a different way but my nerves were still high. At one point in a game, I had 5 false starts! Two of which were in a row... This is an unacceptable mistake for a starter. The smell of the grass, the feel of the ball, and the sunset I saw every B-Team game prior to games which always got me going for some strange reason. What was different about this week is I felt I’d make a big play. I had that confidence and believed in myself. Maybe it was due to them being a very poor performance team. To this day I’m not sure but I was hyped up the whole day. The game started and all we did on offense was execute. I made the same simple plays I always did for some first downs, but I had yet to be satisfied with my performance. As the game went on I noticed my offenses momentum or tempo started to slow. Our defense wasn’t holding up very well so I knew I had to do something to get the whole teams blood flowing. I saw this as my opportunity to do something big and get us started up
