I have had several memorable days. Some of the days had real cool outcomes and others, I have felt better about them by putting them out of my mind. Funny thing, my best day that I can remember occurred in a school setting. It is a most memorable day that I would like to share, it happened the first day that I arrived at Atlanta Job Corps. That day was connected to so many happy sessions in orientation, in touring the center and also in meeting my counselor. When I first got to the Job Corps, I did not expect such a wonderful welcome. The most stressful and challenging situation was during my volunteering in the Rehab unit at the hospital. I was assigned to help a student therapist in assisting a patient in walking. The Patient was overweight and it usually takes more than two people when assisting the patient in walking but the therapist and the patient felt confidant enough that she would be able to walk without much help. When the therapist and I began to assist her in standing the patients knees buckled under her and she fell and began screaming in pain. The combined strength of the therapist and I were not enough to help get up and the only thing we were able to do was straighten out her legs and comfort her until more help came. I felt really bad what happen but
I have learned how to accept supervision better. I am showing concern for others more than normal, and I have met great people who I can really consider as mentors for me later in life. These people have changed me and helped me see the brighter things in life. Coming to Job Corps is probably the best thing that I have ever done because I was not able to do anything back at home before I came here and now I am getting the education and training that I need to make my dreams come true. I would really like to stay here because I am learning a lot and I have nothing else or better to do to help myself back at
I have 2 years and 11 month as a Correctional Sergeant. In that time my experiences as a correctional sergeant has been both as an area supervisor for adult and youth offender programs section, segregation and a shift supervisor. As an area supervisor I have had to handle many different inmate issues to include but not limited to the following: conducting inmate disciplinary, handling inmate grievances, inmate property, inmate classifications, and disruptive inmates. As an area supervisor I was also in charge of many officers where I had to train and develop their skills being that most of them had under a year experience. In 2015 I was hand selected by both the Associated Warden and Warden to take over segregation to clean up the problems that were occurring in segregation.
Job Corps helps youth and young adults ages 16 to 24 who meet certain low income requirements obtain the training they need to succeed as workers in the United States. To graduate from a Job Corps center, you must prove that you're capable of meeting specific career success standards designed to improve your employability, social skills and chances for success.
I volunteer at BLCI because I know the challenges and barriers that come along with being a Latina and first-generation college student. My hope is by volunteering, I can help minimize these challenges using my academic and personal experience. I have been involved with BLCI since the 6th grade. I volunteered at college panels, assisted with fundraising events; I tutored students, reviewed college applications and scholarships. During college, I was able to gain the necessary experience and resources to further serve the families at BLCI. I spearheaded and developed a yearlong community engagement project called EmPOWERing Youth. The partnership was between SDSU PowerSave Campus, a student-led energy efficiency program and BLCI, a 3rd -12th
As I walked to school with my lunch that was in a plastic bag. Once we got into school and got in the building my teacher Mr. Williams took attendance and five minutes later we turned around and got on the bus. It was windy and there were leaves blowing all over the place. Last year my 5th grade at John Stewart elementary school was going to Leroy Oakes in St. Charles for team building. It was a fall day and it was chilly. I had my drawstring on my back with my lunch and had three coats on. We turned onto a road called Dean Street and it was bordered by grass. I saw the Leroy Oaks sign, and my bus went over a speed bump that threw my class off balance. After awhile my class off the bus with a skip and a jump in my step. Then I was super excited that our
I am Hispanic, so I must be an illegal immigrant, part of a gang, have six childrens, and live in poverty. Right? That is how the television, the internet and the people portray Hispanics to be like.
I find myself extremely passionate in Community Service, I have volunteered at Emmanuel Apostolic Church during Vacation Bible School for the past two summers, preparing food, coming up with creative ideas to keep children occupied, and making sure children are safe. During this time my leadership and conversational skills have strengthened. In addition to that, I have also volunteered there on numerous occasions to feed the homeless. In high school, I also volunteered at an Elderly home on bingo night to interact with the elderly, gave a listening ear, it was extremely rewarding to see them smile, laugh, and interact with me as if they had known me for a while; that showed me how much they appreciate having company. One person cannot tackle the vast amount of issues of today and change the world. With so many injustices that occur in today’s society we can’t help but feel overwhelmed as to what people, as citizens of the world, can do to make the world an exceptional environment. Many believe the task is either too large and intimidating to face head on, or they don’t want to face the possibility of failure and criticism. We have the idea of taking on enormous tasks and expect change almost immediately, however, it’s not the anticipated outcome. Real change starts when one contributes to their community; the smallest of impacts generate the biggest changes in the long run.
In my work with the veterans and the VA, I have served as a counselor, educator, case manager, advocate, facilitator, and organizer. I have worked with veterans and on their behalf to ensure their needs are always at the forefront of my daily work (as much as I am allowed in my role as an intern).
One of the most memorable moments in my life has to be when my grandaughter Aliana Marie Garcia was born. I had been waiting for her to come to this world for a whole nine months!. it was already a special day I held closely as my religion celebrates a special occasion on that day, it is called, "El Dia de Los Reyes", which is a special religious holiday in Mexican culture that is centered around small gifts for children. It was definitely a very wonderful surprise with the precious gift any person can obtain, the gift of life.
Count to ten- one, two, three, four. The cool room smells of chemicals from the sanitation products used on everything. Thirteen people all cooped up with masks, gloves, and scrubs. As they are preparing for their job mine has already been done. I back away and let the surgeon take over as I watch the patient's vital signs like a hawk. For a moment, there is complete silence as everyone prepares to begin the long, grueling surgery. I feel especially tense given I’m just a baby when you compare me to the veteran doctors that surround me. I have studied and worked hard my entire life to be able to do this. Tick.Tock. The hours go by. The tension in the air grows thicker with every passing second, as the surgery becomes more riskier. The career
During my life, So far a lot of my greatest memories involve Boy-Scouts. One of the best moments, I remember is my very first Summer Camp. I had been involved in Boy-Scouts for around four months. I had been told about Camp Chawanakee from other Scouters and I was so excited to go.
Throughout life I have had many memorable events. The memorable times in my life vary from being the worst times in my life and some being the best, either way they have become milestones that will be remembered forever. The best day of my life was definitely the day that I received my drivers’ license. This day is one of the most memorable because of the feelings I had when I received it, the opportunities that were opened up for me and the long lasting benefits that I received from it that still exist today.
Getting lost in a mall was something I was keen on doing. On that day I was on a field trip for my _ grade class. We went to McWane Science Center, it was one of the best places I ever been. I remember touching little sting rays and bamboo sharks. It reminded me of my most favorite place I the world, Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
