In high school we learn and develop skills that help us grow academically as students. In English I’ve improved my creative writing skills in many ways. I also want to improve my public speaking and my overall grade in english. For most of high school I've had a C average in English because of my writing .Many of my essay from my previous classes were very generic. For example my “Mice of Men” Essay started out with the prompt question being used in my intro. Now my writing has a more unique style and has a more personal touch.
My writing has improved .I want to improve other parts of my academic strengths such as my oral communication. My oral communication is one of the weaker parts of my overall academic skills in English because i am
In Honors English, I have strengthened by writing ethnic over the first semester. I have improved my arguments in essays and have made them sturdier. From the beginning of the year to the Lord of the Flies essay, I have created way better arguments. Also, I have made better claims that are not vague but can be argued about. The improved claims can be shown in the Lord of the Flies essay. I have done a decent job interpreting the claim too, providing evidence that
So far this year, I felt pretty satisfied with my progress this semester. I feel like I am slowly adapting to the new way papers and assignments are handled. All my college work depends solely on me now. No one is going to baby me anymore and whether I succeed or fail depends on how much effort I put into something. For the first time in my life I wrote a paper. Not just a five paragraph essay but actual pages, which is extremely challenging. It’s also been my first time studying for five hours straight so I can pass an actual test. I didn’t know I possessed this level of dedication, it’s probably because it isn’t free.
Back when I started high school, I cringed at the thought of writing essays. I did not know how to convey my thoughts through my writing efficiently. After sophomore year, I was more confident about my writing. It was not until junior year, however, that my writing drastically improved. IB English 11 taught me to be a more analytical thinker and refined my skills as a writer along with enhancing some of my weakness like transitions and vocabulary.
Throughout all of my years in high school, as I took all of the required A-G classes, I learned many things. I learned about communication, not only in English, but Spanish as well. I learned how to hold a conversation with a Spanish-speaking person and I also learned how to write and read in the language. In both English and Spanish, I learned how to communicate my thoughts, ideas and information in a formal and eloquent form. I learned much of my writing skills from the novels, books, and short stories that I read. My level of reading comprehension improved as I learned how to understand interpret, and appreciate the written information in literature, prose, and various other documents. Overall, I learned how to construct meaning from
As I look back at my experience during this class, I would consider my accomplishments were improving my writing style, which has not only helped me in this class but other classes and will also be beneficial in the future. I think when it comes to what I could have done differently, I would suggest taking better notes during each of the readings, especially the ones that I felt were hard for me to comprehend, and resulted in me reading the story over. Out of all the readings at first I enjoyed the “Troubadour” the story was easy to understand and I enjoyed the ending. After completing my final paper, I find myself not necessarily enjoying reading “Other Voices, Other Rooms” but I did enjoy researching the Queer Theory and its relation to the
There are several ways in which my writing skills has improved when responding to the literature in this semester. Although, there are also some things that I still need to improve on as well. One aspect of writing that I have struggled with is being able to form a coherent thesis statement and also being able to support it with examples from the text. In my writing I still sometimes tend to make grammatical errors as well. I excelled at being able to incorporate the underlying themes and symbols within the reading material for this course into my writing. There were many expectations I had about reading and writing when coming into this course. My primary expectation for this course was to improve both my reading and writing skills. This expectation
Luckily this time, I already had the resources to further increase my English ability. Instead of attending a local Taiwanese school, my parents thought it would be best for me to attend an American school, where I could continue improving my English. Being one of the few well-established American schools in Taiwan, the school had a good reputation and great facilities, so naturally, it attracted many foreign teachers. These teachers, coming over teach boosted the school’s quality of education and further increasing the reputation as well. I continued working on my English, learning all the rules of grammar and punctuation, writing different types of papers, ranging from research to persuasive essays. Eventually, I would be writing my own personal statement and filling out college applications. Again, something I never thought would happen when I was four years
Coming into college, I always considered English (writing in particular) to be my most challenging class. I never really enjoyed reading or writing and would only do so if I had to for a class. Other than that, I never had the motivation to read or write in my spare time. After this first semester, I have gained an appreciation for writing and put a lot of effort into each essay I wrote. I noticed that each essay got easier for me to write and I got better grades each time. I adopted a new writing practice that works for me and the simple fact that I enjoyed what I was writing about has made me a better writer.
I am Kazuki Nakanishi and I have two goals in this level. my first writing goal in this level is using an adjective and an adverb as much as I can in my writing paper. I learned how to write the nice essay from level 5, so I would like to focus on of constructing a sentence. I feel that I tend to use easy noun and verb in everyday conversation compared with the native speaker, and I need to add more information to explain something clearly using adjective and adverb. It is obvious that writing skill directly connects to speaking skill, so this goal can be my biggest goal in level 10.
Overall, I have a lot of areas of improvement when it comes to writing and public speaking. I hope that by the time I graduate, I will be able to accomplish my goals of becoming a more effective writer and speaker. With all of the resources that are available to me, I should have no problem reaching these goals. By the end of the program, I will convey my message effectively through writing and
Writing is an important part of everyone’s life, whether we use it in school, in the workplace, as a hobby or in personal communication. It is important to have this skill because it helps us as writers to express feelings and thoughts to other people in a reasonably permanent form. Formal writing forms like essays, research papers, and articles stimulates critically thinking. This helps the writer to learn how to interpret the world around him/her in a meaningful way. In college, professors motivate students to write in a formal, coherent manner, without losing their own voice in the process. Improving your writing skills is important, in every English class that’s the main teaching point; to help students improve their writing skills. Throughout my college experience I have acknowledge that
I was shaking not with fear or excitement There were a million butterflies in my stomach i barely worked on it and i had to present. We had about 2 weeks to complete though i completely forgot about it i hate presenting anyways but it was my turn up. In 4th grade i started to hate writing because we had to present everything so i barely worked on it i was a straight c student. Writing is something to jot down notes or ideas out of my head. Writing was something to do when i’m bored just to do something or if i have to go to bed i’ll just write or read instead.
In middle school, I started to take English a grade above, subsequently I had 8th grade English in 7th grade, and 9th grade English in 8th grade. Being a grade above in English gave me confidence going into high school. I thought that because English seemed to be my specialty, I’d do well in my high school English
In order to do so I will study more than I would in my high school English class. I plan to make a difference in my reading skills so one day I can read to a class of thirty or more students. I will accomplish this by using everything I learn from this class. I will overcome my obstacles by pushing myself to be a successful student so one day I can achieve my goal of becoming a teacher. I plan to become a better reader and test taker by taking the skills Dr. Lane will provide me with this semester and use them to the best of my ability whether it’s studying more or reading things I don’t normally read. I plan on opening up to try new things to help me not only pass this class but also to use it towards my dream. This year I will attend more sessions like ACT preparation to improve my reading skills. I plan to make more time for school. As well I hope to find an interest in reading things I don’t like. I plan to take my new reading skills and apply them to my daily life to help make the skills become more natural to me and not feel forced while improving my
Throughout the semester, I was successful in hitting all three speaking and listening GCOs. In this section I self-evaluated my skills during informal speaking and listening conversations as well as my essential question pitch proposal. In regards to speaking and listening I have improved on skills such as generating and sustaining discussions, I have learned how to properly have a conversation both verbally and non-verbally, and also to interact with sensitivity and respect towards my peers (Grade Twelve English Language Arts Essential Learning Outcomes).
