Ryne Garrison I Grew Up Here Because of some of the circumstances that make me who I am, it is hard to say I have any one definitive home. Instead, I have had two true homes, ever since I was a young child. What makes this even more of a conundrum is that my homes have always had little in common, even though they are only a few hundred miles apart. Between the big city of Houston, Texas, and the small town of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, I have grown up in two very different towns that relate to one another only in the sense that they have both raised me. I was born in Houston, Texas, and for that reason it has always been a home to me. Even though I love the quiet life of a small town (like Burns Flat, where I attend school), the lights and skylines of a big city have always stood for a lot of ideals that I hold very true to my heart. Opportunity, growth, and pride are just a few of these ideals that reflect not only how I feel about cities, but also how I view myself. I spend my summers and holidays in Christmas every year with my dad, my stepmom, and my stepsiblings and their friends, who I spend most of my summer hanging out with. I am very proud of Houston, through both the good and the bad. Hurricane Harvey, the storm that ravaged life in Houston in summer of 2017, is something that I felt great sorrow over, especially because I had to watch …show more content…

It’s the people you share it with, and the experiences you have in common. Everybody in Houston will remember Hurricane Harvey, just like everybody in Burns Flat will remember our first days of sixth grade, and the immense terror we faced the first time we had to walk to the high school end of the building. It’s these shared experiences that I can always relate to, that makes Houston and Burns Flat the two best homes I could ever ask to grow up in. Even though these two cities have seemingly nothing in common, I will always consider each of them to be the place that helped me grow into
