The next morning he went off to find his job in Mexico, and found a person who needed help selling food so he decided to sign up for that job. He would get $8 a day for working there at the food stand. When he got home he went to bed to get a surprise tomorrow he didnt suspect would happen. The next morning he was going to work when he saw a man walk up to him and ask if he would want a illegal way through a tunnel to pass through the border, he said it would be $15. To be called a walker you need to come from a place where you work all day but don’t make enough ends meat. Urrea explains the small towns and villages where all the poor Mexican citizens yearn for bigger dreams and a better lifestyle. He talks about the individual subjects and circumstances that bring the walkers to decide to cross the border and risk death. Urrea tells the stories of the fourteen victims and giving brief sketches of each individual lives in Mexico. The men were mostly workers on coffee plantations or farmers. They were all leaving their families who consisted of new brides, a wife and several children or a girlfriend they hoped to marry someday. They all had mainly the same aims about going to the U.S, like raising enough money to buy furniture or to build a house, or, in one case, to put a new roof on a mother's house. The main events of the story occur in Honduras and Mexico. Tegucigalpa, Honduras is where Enrique was born and raised by several family members. In Tegucigalpa, Enrique is shuffled from house to house simply because he is unable to control his emotions. This makes Enrique angry and he begins to rebel against the people he lives with. At the age of 17, Enrique decides to leave his family in Honduras and travel to the United States in hopes that he will reunite with his mother. His journey will take him through Chiapas, Mexico, the most hostile city at the point of his travel. In Chiapas, corrupt Mexican police officers and gangs stop migrants and order them to give up anything in their possession. Enrique was beaten and thrown off a train in Chiapas by gang members who raiding the train. After being thrown off of the train Enrique realizes that the journey is not going to be as easy as he dreamed it was. The second most hostile city of the trip, Oaxaca is where many migrants are deported. The people of Oaxaca have a very distinct way of speaking and behaving. In Oaxaca Enrique is kept on toes, wondering if he will be deported because of his awkward dress and dialect. The last important place in the story is Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. Nuevo Laredo is last stop for immigrants travelling to the United States. From Nuevo Laredo immigrants will illegally enter Texas and begin their struggle for financial success in America. Enrique does finally enter Texas after being pushed on a boat from Nuevo Laredo. Once he entered Texas, Enrique takes a cab to North Carolina hoping to find his mother. As a result, they decided to risk their lives and try once again, but before trying to cross the border, first they had to find a guide person that new the route to cross the border. As soon as, four hours passed by, they finally found the guide person that would help them cross the border. With this in mind, around 6:00 p.m. they started to walk once again, but this time it wasn’t any strange mountain, it was a rainforest that made it inevitable to see, which made this horrible trip of escapation for a better life, seem an impossible to cross the border. There once was a man named Franswah, and he had a wife named Keisha. They both lived in Keithville, Atlanta. They had a little girl named Jasmine, she was twelve years of age and she attended Ghettoville Jr. High School in the seventh grade. Keisha never did like doing anything, so her husband Franswah decided to go out and have an affair with a lady named Shay. Franswah and Shay worked at a law firm together. Shay was his assistant, she always helped him with things and they always went to lunch together. So some nights he never came home or either he came in late. Keisha was never the type of person to just argue, she mainly just questioned him to see what the response would be and she left it alone until the next morning. I feel like I have wasted 14 years, 4 months, and 24 days of my life waiting for him to change. Every night lying in bed, terrified, paralyzed by fear, praying that God would allow something to happen to me while protecting my children that would wake him up as to what he has right in front of him. Sleeping next to him every night feeling alone and wondering if this was normal. I kept blaming myself for not being good enough and that forced me to sacrifice more and more to win him over, hoping that I would one day be good enough. Once there was a goat. It was a smart little clever goat. There was a fox, and he wanted to eat the goat when he was small. This is a story about them as children. One bright sunny day the goat was roaming around in the barn. The fox was looking at the goat from a small hill. On the hill the fox was making a plan to eat the goat. When the plan was ready the fox went over the plan before doing it so the plan won’t fail. Then the fox tries to walk normally to the goat. Esperanza gets a summer job because her family wants her to. One day there was an open fire hydrant and a boy pushed Esperanza into it. Her aunt found her a job at the photofinishing store. Esperanza has to lie about her age to get the job though. She doesn’t think she can sit down for that long. She takes her brakes in the closest and eats in the bathroom. Esperanza makes friends with a guy at her job. She finally has someone to eat with at lunch and makes her feel better. He tells her its his birthday and to give him a birthday kiss.
