Personal Narrative: Freedom of Expression
One activity that I enjoy doing in my spare time is playing music. I play the guitar and have been playing for nine years. I started off wanting to play when I went to a store and found a very inexpensive little thirty dollar guitar. I picked it up and started playing around with it in the store. At this time I was eight years old. During this time of my life I wasn't really involved in any activities and really wasn't that social among friends and other people. So I decided that it was time to change so I thought playing the guitar would be a good start. My birthday was coming up in a couple of weeks so I decided to ask for one as a gift.
On my ninth birthday I got that very same guitar I was playing with in the store. I was so happy when I got it, as if I knew that in the future it would be something I came to love. I started playing it and decided that I wanted to take some lessons to better my technique. Ever since then I have been taking lessons, reading music, and playing any song that comes to mind, that I would like to learn.
One reason I enjoy this activity is because it sets my mind at ease. If I come home from work, or come back from a long day at school, or am just generally in a bad mood, I can sit down and play a song and it will totally set me at ease. Just popping in a CD and listening to it can do the same, but when I make the music, it is so much better. Another reason I like playing music is just for the shear fun and enjoyment I get out of it. This that are really exciting to me are learning a new song, learning a new scale, and the best is when you can write a song.

...hey can put their emotion into it, or they may, however, be influenced by another person in their life and want to write a song about it. I, for instance, find it hard to express myself and talk to people, but I have figured out that through writing songs, I can express myself with no problem. When people come to understand me from songs that I have written it really makes me feel good.
This is the one thing that I enjoy doing in my spare time. Out of all the things that I do during my spare time, this is the one that takes priority over all. I am looking to go places with my music, as far out as it may seem, but I have been raised to follow my dreams and this is the dream in my life. That would be, to play my music for other people to let them know who I am. I hope by reading this that you have maybe learned something about me, and what kind of person I am.
I like to play different type of music and genres. Most of the time when there’s a song that I like, I look it up on the internet and I learn to play it. Playing the guitar and having interactions with music helps me to get relaxed. I give thanks to my room for all this relaxation and silent that it brought to me.
With so many different cultures, races, religions, personalities, etc., it’s surprising how many fundamental things humans share. Music intertwines us all with its diversity and the effect it has on us. Whether you’re looking to rock out in a dance party, get a good workout in, sleep soundly, study hard, recover from a depressive state, or get the thrill of a super scary horror movie, music is there. Although listening to music is thought to be solely a source of entertainment, it can be used to improve almost all aspects of our everyday life.
My love for music has kept me afloat through many tribulations throughout my life. When I was younger I was fascinated with the concept of music theory. This love led me to play recorder, piano, and now guitar. I love the freedom that music allows one when composing an original piece. There are so many genres and aspects of music to choose that one can never be bored. With my music, I feel I am able to paint a vivid story of my life. As the notes carry my thoughts and passions, I am able to share my hopes and dreams with anyone who would stop and listen. I hope to improve my skills in the future and work on sharing my love for music with others. There's no better feeling than composing and preforming ones own
I remember the year my Highschool team went to the state championship. My team the Kansas City Hawks went up against the twelve time champs The St.Louis Kings. What made them twelve time champs was us. Every time my team went to the championship The Kings met us there. All twelve times The King where the victors. January 25,2024 The Hawks were on a warpath for that Championship.
Hearing and playing music is good for you. Especially playing. There is even math involved in playing music. Music is uplifting. It teaches multitasking. Marching and playing at the same time. Marching backwards while playing. Marching sideways while facing forward and playing....
Sometimes I even cry when I listen to this song because of all the emotions it makes me feel. When I listen to this song I even feel inspired to love even more, and to forgive. It makes me miss my loved ones. It makes me relax and forget what is going on around me. Example: when my boyfriend and I are mad at each other and I listen to this song I right away let it all out and after I let things out I feel better and I find the way for us to be good again. All this happens because this song makes me think of all the beautiful things the person I love has and that it is beautiful when you love someone and that person loves you the same or even more back, and that’s a magnificent feeling.
I grew up in a very musical family. My uncles had their own band, my brother tried to start his own band, and my cousin Spencer had his own band. I started playing the flute and piano when I was nine years old, attempted to play bass guitar when I was thirteen, then got into playing the drums when I was fourteen. I’ve always used music as my release from stress too, it’s just always been able to make me relax and get my mind off of everything.
Music is a part of everything and everyone lives: our rest, our entertainment, our religion, our country, and our education. The role of music in our lives helps us in our pursue of a good life through our soul and spirits.
The following Christmas half way through my fifth grade year, I received my first string instrument. Immediately I dropped the clarinet and fell in love with that cheap, 45 dollar, first act guitar. Everywhere I went, it followed. I was 11 at the time and that 45 dollar guitar made me feel like the hotshot of the town. Music made me happy.
The first important aspect of music is the amount of creativity and originality it brings out in students. Music has a way of letting everyone express themselves personally, with others, and even for others. Personal expression through music is such a beautiful experience, and yet it happens so naturally. As John Dewey wrote, "In great art, there is no limit set to the individualization..." (204). Experiencing music with others is another magnificent way of expression, but the opportunities must be there for it to happen. Also, expression in music for others is related to this because it can be done alone or with others. Learning about music is beneficial, because it lets students learn about themselves as they learn about music. Students learn to work together, to use teamwork, and to take responsibility. According to Music Educators Journal, Jacquelyn Dillon-Krass, president of the American String Teachers Association, said in an inter...
Reflecting from my past experiences, there were many reasons why playing in the orchestra interested me. When we focused on our concerts, we cooperated as a group to make sure that everything fell into place and ran smoothly. I liked how I was part of a group and how I had a “role” to play to make the concert a success. I learned that each person is important in order to become a successful orchestra. By working in these groups, I made many friends along the way. Most importantly, I got to express myself through music. Whether it’s singing, painting, or playing an instrument, people share what they believe and how they feel about something through their art.
In music there are so many different types of genres. Some of which are Hip Hop, R&B, Gospel, Country, Rock & Roll, Classic, Jazz, Latino, Dance, Blues, Holiday and many more. Each genre has a different type of emotion; all of them don’t make
At the age of ten, my parents decided that I should learn how to play an instrument. In addition, they also chose which instrument I should learn, the guitar. I had no interest in learning the guitar, because all I wanted to spend my leisure time on was improvising my soccer skills. However, my parents believed soccer was a waste of my precious time, time which I should be using to focus on school and expanding my brain by taking on a difficult task, such as learning to play music. This was contrary to what I believed, but I had to do it or else my parents would be displeased. Therefore, the following week, I began taking guitar lessons.
Think back on a time when you experienced something stressful. How did you cope with it? Recall a time when you needed to relax. What did you use to help you? Chances are your answers involve music. The desire to play music while working, studying, or even relaxing is universal. Whether playing the music, singing along, or just listening, music can have many positive effects that aren’t often recognized. Music is unique in its ability to stimulate more than just one brain hemisphere, incorporating both the right and left sides of the brain. Because both sides of the brain are being affected, there are both creative and analytical benefits to making music part of daily routines. It’s no secret that listening to or playing music is enjoyable, but studies have proven that music can boost more than just your mood.
In today's day and age, music may also act as a therapeutic outlet for some people.
