The pony express Some have to work for it, others not so much. I have always been very active through elementary and middle school. I have always been one of the fastest runners in my school. Every month our school would have a one mile running test in gym class that I always looked forward to. Everyone wanted to compare his/her times and see who was faster than who. I didn't know track and cross country was a middle school sport until 8th grade when my best friend joined track. After that I wanted to join, but I was scared because I had social anxiety and the idea of everyone watching me made me not join. In track there are meets, faster people, and bigger expectations and all of this was overwhelming for me. I made excuses and excuses and excuses until track was over. I was as nervous as a fly in a spiderweb. I walk in the gates to see the big red open track with team tents set up all around it. Families and supporters filling the stands while waiting for the running events to start. The first thing I heard was the crowd being very chatty and the spikes of the runners shoes hitting the track as they warm up. the smell of salty popcorn and hot cocoa fills the stands. Doing the best that I possibly can and becoming better throughout my running is very important to me. I have decided to keep running track since my freshman year of high school because it makes me work hard, push myself, and it is very exciting. I hope to keep running in the future. The thumping of my competitors spikes behind me on the track drives me to run faster. The site of the finish line ahead of me blocks all of the pain out of my legs and they become numb. The only thing I am focusing on is doing my absolute best and if my competition is behind me I fight to stay ahead of
