I think Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays. Maybe because of the special atmosphere that you can feel everywhere, in shops, restaurants , pubs and even streets, where you can hear the magical carols, or maybe it's because of its religious background, but what I can tell you for sure is that I can't think of anything more exciting than the image of the entire family preparing the Christmas Tree or fixing the Christmas dishes.
When I think of Christmas the first thing that pops into my mind is the delicious Chocolate Cake that only my grandma knows how to prepare. Perhaps this is the reason why, every year, my family and me try to spend our holiday at our grandma's place.

Christmas, I love Christmas, I love shopping for presents for my loved ones, thinking about the gifts I want to give, the wrapping and arranging them under the beautiful Christmas tree. I love the planning and preparing Christmas dinner, filling the house with wonderful fragrant smells hoping everyone comes and has a good time and still talking to each other when they leave. Most of all though, I love the Christmas tree, I love the excitement as the hunt begins for the perfect tree finally when everyone is in agreement we bring it home hoping it’s not too tall too short too fat or too skinny and most important stands up straight. Somehow it always fits and always looks beautiful, I am never disappointed and my tree is always perfect and beautiful.
Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” is the author’s most celebrated work. The book conveys the story of Marlow, who is a sailor on the ship. Marlow narrates the story describing particularly what he came across during his journey and experienced. With the rapid development of the city and tremendous progress of technology in America, gentrification becomes a universal phenomenon in every city, especially in Englewood―the south side of Chicago. As capital begins to flow into the Englewood community, many aspects of daily life are drastically changed for better. The tremendous change brings not only the renovated facilities and building but arrives with the new retail and service business. Plenty of citizens who live in the Englewood community were benefiting from the gentrification by live happily. They also said that gentrification is a commendable change in Englewood to renew and develop. Thus, gentrification is beneficial to local residents (Ferro).
Gentrification is designed to improve the quality of life for the residents, but the fact is that it pushes out old residents to welcome in young and wealthy citizens. To analyze the demographic even further, gentrified neighborhoods in New York City have seen an increase in white population despite a city wide decrease. As Kate Abbey-Lamertz of the Huffington Post states, “The report notes that change is driven by educated people moving in, rather than by existing residents becoming more educated.” These changes are being driven by a millennial demographic who can afford the changed aesthetic. The influx of millennials are pushing out families whose lifestyle can’t keep up with the changing demographic. Skin cancer is a disease that begins in cells, the building blocks that make up the biggest organ in the human body, which is the skin. Normally in the human body, skin cells grown and divide into many to form new cells taking place the cells that grow old and die. Therefore, skin cancer occurs when the orderly process goes wrong so there is an uncontrolled growth of abnormal meaning that it leads the skin cells to multiply rapidly and grow onto others tissues forming malignant tumors. Even though skin cancer forms in the skin, they are classified based on the types of cells where the cancer starts; Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma.
Types of skin cancer are melanoma, and non-melanoma, which are basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Melanoma is the rarer of the types and begins in the melanocytes or pigmented cells of the skin (National Cancer Institute, 2013). It is more serious than non-melanoma cancers because it can spread to other areas of the body. Non-melanoma cancers are more common and begin in the basal and squamous layers of the skin (National Cancer Institute, 2013). It is rare that this type of cancer spreads to any other area of the body.
In "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge undergoes a transformation as a result of his encounters with three ghosts and becomes a kind, happy, and generous man. His greedy, cruel, and grumpy demeanor is replaced seemingly overnight, but he doesn’t just wake up and decide to be nice. It takes three Spirits to change his outlook on life - The Ghosts of Christmases Past, Present, and Future. The Ghost of Christmas Past makes Scrooge begin to regret his selfishness, and the Ghost of Christmas Present begins to teach him about others. This second Ghost helps to make him realize that money doesn't buy happiness. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, however, teaches the most profound lesson of all: unless he changes, no one will care if Scrooge dies. Because of the Ghosts, by Christmas morning Ebenezer Scrooge is a completely different person from the man who went to bed on Christmas Eve.
Gentrification does not follow traditional urban growth theory, which predicts ?the decline of inner city areas as monied classes move to the metropolitan fringe.? The traditional economic model of real estate says that wealthy people can choose their housing from the total city market (Schwirian 96). Once these people decide to live in the suburbs, the lower social classes move into the old homes of the upper class, essentially handing housing down the socioeconomic ladder. Gentrification is actually a reversal of this process. For a variety of reasons, many inner city areas are becoming more attractive to the wealthy, and they are selecting their housing in those areas (Schwirian 96). The problem is that now when the wealthy take over poor homes and renovate them, the poor cannot afford the housing that the wealthy have abandoned. Many researchers have argued whether gentrification has truly created problems in cities. I will analyze the arguments for and against gentrification by exploring the subject from both sides.
Of the many problems affecting urban communities, both locally and abroad, there is one issue in particular, that has been victimizing the impoverished within urban communities for nearly a century; that would be the problem of gentrification. Gentrification is a word used to describe the process by which urban communities are coerced into adopting improvements respective to housing, businesses, and general presentation. Usually hidden behind less abrasive, or less stigmatized terms such as; “urban renewal” or “community revitalization” what the process of gentrification attempts to do, is remove all undesirable elements from a particular community or neighborhood, in favor of commercial and residential enhancements designed to improve both the function and aesthetic appeal of that particular community. The purpose of this paper is to make the reader aware about the significance of process of gentrification and its underlying impact over the community and the community participation.
When I was younger, the two holidays I looked forward to were always Thanksgiving and Christmas. In order to understand skin cancer it is good to know the three layers of skin; epidermis, dermis, and subcutis. The epidermis is the very thin top layer of the skin. Inside the epidermis there are cells called melanocytes, these are the cells that give our skin color. Melanocytes are also the cells that become melanoma (skin cancer). The dermis is the middle layer of the skin that contains hair follicles, sweat glands, blood vessels, and nerves. Last is the subcutis which contains the protein and fat that helps the body control the temperature. Signs of melanoma is usually spotting on the skin that is usually brown or black, but could be pink, tan, or white. On the surface, Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness appears to be chiefly male¬-driven which leaves little room for a feminist literary analysis. Ever since I could remember, I have spent Christmas at my grandmother’s house, a house which is full of comfort, warmth, and happiness. At Christmas, I have always been able to escape the cold and dark real world allowing myself to truly enjoy just several moments in time. These moments have left impressionable memories from my childhood making Christmas a holiday that is special to me and my family. It is a time for my family to get together, share stories, laugh, and even cry.
Women have gained equality with men over the many centuries of the evolution of the modern western civilization. Hence, it cannot be overlooked that there still exist many literary examples of social disregard for woman potential. Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" exemplifies the Western patriarchal gender roles in which women are given the inferior status. Not only are women portrayed as being inferior to men, but Marlow's (the protagonist's) seldom mentioning of them in his Congo adventure narrative symbolizes his view of their insignificance. There is a total of five women presented in Marlow's narrative but only three of them are significant minor characters: Marlow's aunt, Kurtz's African mistress, and Kurtz's "Intended." The following essay will examine how the presentation of each of these three women in Marlow's narrative contributes to connecting events in the story.
