Imagine getting one million dollars instantly with no questions asked, Taylor Neal would just save it for keeps. On August 31st I interviewed Taylor Neal, a 19 year old in English 11 period 3, I have know him but never really talked to him for long. He is a senior at Hempfield High School. While interviewing Taylor, I was intrigued by his family history, school activities and personality traits and hobbies. The first topic in the interview was on Taylor’s family life. Taylor Neal, born on January 29th 1997 in the city of Bossier City Louisiana. Then he moved to Greensburg Pennsylvania and has now lived here for 2 years. He lived in his birth city for 17 years before moving here. Now on to the subject of his family; he has 1 little sister,
In the beginning of the story we see that Taylor is an average teenage girl living with a single mother. She says, “But I stayed in school. I was not the smartest or even particularly outstanding but I was there and staying out of trouble” (3). She was called “Missy” for a lot of her childhood but when she was three she said, “I stamped my foot and told my mother not to call me Marietta but Miss Marietta” (2). From Taylor’s childhood I find that she had a sense of personal pride and could defend herself. These really are great attributes and we really see these attributes grow more and mature throughout the story.
As the protagonist, Taylor leads a life far from the ordinary, and gains matures and gains worldly knowledge through a journey most couldn't dream of. Deciding to leave her home in Pittman County, Kentucky she was the one to get away, both in mind and body. The culture of where she grew up didn't fit her personality, and she decided she wouldn't let herself fall into the life of the other people in her town. She bought a car and hit the road, with no plan or destination to adhere to. This journey shows the type of personality she possesses, and throughout the journey how it advances. Taylor was already quite an admirable person, and she already possessed many good traits. She was already independent and knew there was more to see in the world than what there was in Pittman County. She knew that there was room for improvement and infinite things to learn in the world, she just didn't know what they were. Sadly, most of what she lea...
Turning point occurs when an exclusive Manhattan prep school recruits Jamal for his basketball talent and academic achievement, and he seeks Forrester’s help in dealing with the new environment. Jamal gradually becomes committed not only to his own writing, but to cracking Forrester’s shell.” (p2) Jamal and Forrester are not your usual pair of friends; a 16-year-old basketball player and an extraordinary writer are not two people you usually see together often. Not only do they get closer, they also start to realize what the other needs. They are both extremely different from each other, so they are going to overcome their situations by showing courage in opposite ways.
I chose this memoir after reading the brief summary because it’s a true story, told by Ryan Smithson himself. His story is an account of a teenager, only a few years older than my peers and I. I had skimmed through the first chapter, and was captivated.
Much like the movie classic The Breakfast Club, American Teen is a documentary film that focuses on five different stereotypes of high school students. The five stereotypes discussed in the film are “the typical popular girl, the basketball star, the good-looking guy, the band geek, and then finally, the rebel, or in this case, the arty type” (Roberts & Burstein, 2008). The adolescent I chose to analyze from the film was the band geek. The band geek in this film was Jake. “He was funny and outgoing one-on-one, however, he was very shy in certain group situations” (D-Man, 2010). He played the clarinet in the marching band and also really loved video games. He lived with

Summer vacation, and school ends for about three months, and then you have as much fun as you can, then back to school… right? Well I had to go to summer school, but it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Everything was going fine, I had a job after summer school, and that was going fine as well. They say that summer is supposed to be fun and exciting, and it usually is for me and my family. However in July my father started coughing up blood. My father usually doesn’t make it his top priority to go to the doctors, so he waited about four weeks until he really didn’t feel good.
