I’m going to start out with the place I’ve lived my whole life Gresham, Oregon. It’s a pretty good thing having lived Gresham my whole life. Everything is super close like parks, stores, and schools. It was the best to grow up in opinion I got to see some stuff I should avoid and got to meet people that were helpful in my life. Also a plus of living in a smaller city is if you meet one person when you go to the park you will most likely see them another time. I have friends I played basketball with at Highland one year ago and still play against them to this day. There's a community more in Gresham, I think no one's afraid to talk to each other or ask for help and if someone needs help they won’t shrug them off. That’s one thing I don’t really see if other places everyone else has their own agenda and that doesn’t include knowing your neighbors. That’s insane, but it makes me happy that Gresham has friendly people unlike other cities. Maybe some of that is to do with schooling which is the next thing I want to talk about. In my whole school history I’ve only went to two schools Highland Elementary School and Clear Creek Middle School. Just to recap I’ve only went to two schools before Gresham High School , Clear Creek Middle School and Highland Elementary School. I was born in Gresham, Oregon and stayed in Gresham my whole life so 14 years. My parents grew up in Romania and came to America in the 1990s. I prefer to speak Romanian if possible as it comes easier to me. I also really like to play basketball and need to improve at it a lot before I’m even decent enough to make a team. Also my sister's a nurse who went to college at University of Portland. Lastly English is my favorite class in high school so far. Sorry if you read those 4 paragraphs before this one but, oh well you get a better understanding of me if you did
Today I wake up and stretch. I look around and see what's going on. I spent the night up on the bed and is so very comfortable. I normally get to spend my night sleep next to my parents if you will. I tend to stay on my mom's side as she is more willing to let me have some space. Dad doesn’t like when im on his side.
Life is like a million puzzle pieces, and without those pieces we wouldn't be a complete puzzle. Nevertheless, that's exactly how my life is set up. With the pieces, of my imperfect life, I am more of a person, but without them I'm incomplete. I believe I'm no different than the other, but in reality I really am. My puzzle consist of me being a young, middle class, black female, who did not grow up in a single parent home. My parents are still happily married, and unlike most married couples, they is very, very limited arguing within our household. Furthermore, I was raised in the south with a christain background. Social location is the groups people belong to because of their place or position in history of society.
I was fifteen when it all began; the laughing, taunting, teasing, the confusion. It wasn’t always like this. I used to be happy.
“Where are you from?” is hard question for me to answer. I’m originally from Connecticut, but I currently live in New Jersey, and in between there are a number of places I’ve lived. Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, London, Switzerland, and New Jersey again, to be exact. I am of course beyond blessed to be able to say that I’ve lived in both London, England as well as Switzerland, but it posed a lot of difficulties come high school. It’s something that made me unique among those who have lived in the same suburban area there whole life, and a lot of people didn’t understand it.
Have any of you ever watched the sitcom “Cheers”? Their theme song went a little something like this, “Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they’re always glad you came.” Well I actually had a place I called my “Cheers”. It’s called Sportsmen’s. It’s nestled right here in Harlingen at the corner of Washington and 13th street across from Movies 10. Yes this little bar was my home away from home when I was in my 20’s. My friends and I could be found there four out of the six nights it was open. We loved it! I loved everything about it, the people, the music, the ambiance, the beer. Yummy! Basically I loved the life it had. Unfortunately, for me Sportsmen’s has lost its luster from when I was one of its regulars.

The doors opened and I pushed him out. He didn’t even ask where I was taking him. Perhaps he thought I was killing him. His mind running through all those mental goodbyes to whoever he thought he loved. I smiled a bit when I tore off the laundry facility door and yanked him inside. Because I was bringing him back to life.
The community that I had been living here for the past couple of years is Woodside. Woodside is my home where there are a lot of varieties of things to do with people’s lives. In fact, it accommodate how people in this community interact with others such as going to varieties of stores, enjoying themselves at the park and etc. The best view point of my community that I like to talk about is the park and the good foundation of stores that are provided in this community.
With my last name being O’Connell, it is obvious that my ancestry originates from Ireland. My whole life, I have had hopes to learn more about family’s history, and there is no better way to do so than experiencing the notable Irish landmarks, unique traditions, and diverse population firsthand. I am fascinated by Ireland’s breathtaking cliffs, historic ruins, old churches, and scenic castles, and I am ecstatic to be able to see it with my own eyes. I understand that going abroad is a privilege, but I believe it is an opportunity everyone should seek. On the outskirts of a big, bustling city was a small town. It was a cheerful little town, full of blossoming flowers and cheerful wildlife. The people in this town had not been to the city, for it was too far and very different from their simple lifestyle. Every morning, they would get up and go through their daily routine, with no worries. They fended for each other and all was well.
I got up and walked to my bedroom door. Reaching my hand forward, I grasped the handle and turned it. I slowly pulled the door, and it opened. On the other side of the door was an empty suitcase. Mom wanted me to pack up to go to New Mexico. Respectfully, I grabbed the case and decided that if I’m going, I at least should be packed up.
I grew up with my grandparents. We lived on a farm in the country seven miles out of town. Mostly surrounded by trees and fields, I called it home. There was a little over 6 acres of land for my childhood to explore. There was orchards of fruit and nut trees. There were also several buildings along the property, such as, a big blue barn, an upholstery shop, and the most decrepit, worn down horse stable you would ever see. My grandparents were thinking of the property. My Grandma was a real estate agent and had the license to do it herself. On one summer day, my grandma was showing our property to a man. She wasn’t supposed to be long, so she decided to leave me by myself in the upholstery shop office room. The room I was in was quite small. It had also just been redone. I was alone in the almost empty room with very few things to occupy myself. I was a child that found herself bored often, and because of my curiosity it usually wasn't hard for me to find stuff to do in my environment. All that resided in that small office room was a desk, a filing cabinet, plastic tarps on the carpet,
I was torn with the joy of getting to speak to my friend and anger of the circumstances. "That's not fair, Watari! I quit a while ago. I got a job that normal people do and doesn't require any brainpower. I pay my rent and do my taxes. I have a boyfriend who cares about me and friends that enjoy being around me. I have a life here. It-It isn't fair to ask me to pick up and leave what I have made for myself, what makes me happy, to fix the mistake you made. You hear me? It's not fair," I hissed through clenched teeth. I was staring down at the countertop.
The chilling wind pierced through my skin like a thousand sharp knives as I walked to the bus stop that morning. I never did remember it being so far; I was walking through a never ending desert of bitter pain; the white, cold snow of the ground reminded of endless sheets of linen that covered every inch of the land beneath me. It was strange yet almost comforting. I opened my eyes differently when I awoke that morning, something felt different; felling different in this case is rare. This town, this very street; I never realized how everything had always been the same in this town.
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area meant that I was surrounded by some of the most beautiful natural landscapes and habitats. This gave me the opportunity to observe and experience the wonders of nature firsthand. Having a direct connection to nature gave me a deeper and personal understanding of the environment around me, as well as a desire to protect the species that lived in this environment. Additionally, my family and culture taught me the value of natural resources and conservation, and instilled in me a curiosity about the environment and a passion for the natural world.
