Many people go throughout life trying to find their niche in the world. These individuals spend years in various fields, each completely different from the last. Never feeling fulfilled, they decide to settle for a job that pays well enough to live a comfortable life, one that involves mindless tasks that become tedious and mind-numbing. It is an honest living, but not one that excites the person or challenges them. While this may be the scenario for some, this will not be me. I have found my niche in society as a Clinical Biochemist. A Clinical Biochemist can work in a variety of different settings diagnosing illnesses and diseases. Through the use of lab tests involving blood, urine, and other body fluids, a Clinical Biochemist can diagnose and treat medical conditions that affect all ages, ethnicities, and walks of life. My other coworkers are my team in the laboratory, which I would be in charge of. My immediate boss would be myself. I would make a firm, but kind boss, compassionate about my job and dedicated to my staff and patients. My salary would be around $80,000-$90,000 a year with fringe benefits including health insurance, life insurance, retirement, etc. As for my employer, I would work for the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. It is a highly rated hospital in my desired location. Since hospitals are open every waking hour of the day, my schedule would vary depending on the needs of the hospital. Whether it is days, nights, weekends, holidays or anywhere in between, my schedule would be forever changing. In my free time, I could be with my family and friends. I am very social, so my free time would be filled with enjoying life and great people. I may not be able have these days very often because the hospital can be a busy environment that requires the help of all of its staff, even if it means working double shifts and may be even triple
