This morning, I worked up to get ready for school. I put on mo clothes and brush my teeth. I ate breakfast and got ready to go to the bus. What! My mom running to me to give me my lunch. I got on the bus and we were heading to school. I sat in my seat getting ready for class. Then, the teacher told us to take out our homework. Somebody threw a piece of paper at me so I told the teacher didn't do nothing he just sat there and continue reading. The bell ring and it was time to go home now. I was sitting at the kitchen table drinking fresh coffee listening to my mom and aunt tease and joke around about how paranoid my mom was about doing well in her classes, my aunt was telling her that maybe now that I was there, she would relax a little bit and have some fun. Our plan was to go to one of mom's classes with her, and then on a tour of UNC and then we were going to go to dinner and a movie.
On the Monday October 27th, 2014, for the first time in 4 years I did not wake up at 5:30 in the morning, I was not putting on a green skivvy shirt and shorts. There were no PT (physical training) I had to do this morning. Instead, I woke up grab a regular t-shirt, khaki shorts, and my two sea bags full of clothing and gear that I collected during my time in the Marine Corps. I threw everything in my vehicle and drove from Camp Pendleton, California to Quincy, Illinois. Within two weeks I was accepted to Southern Illinois University Carbondale. For three days, I stayed at the

Although life has hit me with many twists and turns on the road to success I'm still in the past thanks to family. I’m a family of three which includes my mother Eniola and my sister Bridget. My family is a big part of my life.At a very young age, my mother made sure I knew my heritage and where I come from. She taught me the languages, the traditions, etc for the last 17 years of my life.
The tears hit my face like a midday Georgia thunderstorm–little sprinkles, then, BAM! The floodgates of heaven opened. I’d made up my mind. I was fed up with the bullies, my eating disorder, living, breathing, being. I was going to take my life that night.

I was only 15 years old; imagine a little boy in a huge and beautiful city without parents, without family. A boy who thought he was alone in the world. Now, in the year 2021, I know I’m not alone. I choose to stay in Lima and this is why and how Lima grew until this year, 2021.
I remember the time my sister, Shifali Malhotra, and I built a fort in our closet over the summer. We were so young and making such fun memories. Summer spent together was always a blast. We would share multiple laughs and were, at the time, basically the same person.
School (ugh) I have been through a lot of it and I still have more to go (ugh). I started school when I turned 2 almost 3 years old. My first year at school was at my church, the program was called “moms and tots” the year after we tried to do “moms and tots” and a preschool called “teddy bears” at the Central High school but doing both did not really work so we just stuck with “teddy bears” for a school year.
