I started the New Year deciding that I was going to become a healthier person. Think healthy, eat healthy, and be healthy. At first, I wanted to lose weight. I tried doing a “no carb” diet. Two weeks within the diet, and I felt sluggish, tired, and grouchy! During my diet, I was also going to try to run a mile a day. That lasted for two days. I did not even have the energy to wake up to go to work in the morning. I decided to switch to just eating healthy and exercising regularly. I am still working on the “exercising regularly” part. My eating habits are better, or so I thought. For breakfast, I would either have a Carnation Instant Breakfast Essential smoothie or an omelet that was made with two medium eggs, ham, spinach, and cheese. The Carnation Instant Breakfast Essential smoothie had one medium sized banana, three-fourths cup of two-percent milk, the powder, and one-half cup of ice. Calcium is needed for healthy bones, nerves, blood vessels, and muscle function. A great source for potassium was the orange juice and banana. Potassium lowers blood pressure, and can decrease the risk of kidney stones and bone loss. Sodium was getting its main source from the ham sandwich with mayonnaise. It is best to always choose food with low sodium or no sodium. I mainly received copper, magnesium, and zinc from the Honey Bunches of Oats cereal. Copper helps develop healthy cells for the body. Magnesium build bones, make protein, release energy from muscles, and controls body temperature. Zinc has an important role in protein formation, assists in healing wounds, blood formation, and growth and maintenance of tissues. Phosphorus and selenium came from the omelet. Phosphorus helps build strong bones and teeth, make energy, and make cells. Selenium is used as cell metabolism and as an antioxidant to protect cells from
