Personal Essay: My Journey To Who I Am?

As a child growing up, I experienced many things that influenced how I developed and

the way my brain became who I am today. We are all influenced by different things in the world

today, that being school, our peers, our family, or the media which floods our daily lives. As a

child, I have things that I deeply remember, good and bad, which include all of these four agents.

All of these memories and lessons learned have obviously changed me and molded me as a

human dependent upon social interaction with those around me. As people our brains

unconsciously force us to change it the hope that this change makes us better people, and more

apt to be liked by others around us, furthering our chances for survival.

I have many memories from early childhood of my family, things

like family vacations, family holidays, and family camping trips that may seem small in time but

are huge factors in my journey to who I am. My most vivid memory as a child in one of these

situations is the family trip I took with my parents and at the time baby brother to the Grand

Canyon in Arizona. Instead of it only being a family trip to this wonder of the natural world, it

was also a business trip per say, as we were delivering furniture from my father’s furniture store

to one of our longtime family friends in Tucson. This was the kind of family trip movies are

written about; four people, two adults and a two-year old all piled in a delivery truck traveling

800 miles, with less than par air conditioning. We stopped in places that were huge and places

that we couldn’t accelerate out of fast enough, and saw amazing sights that almost knock the

wind out of you. Not only were there great times and amazing memories, there were also times

that remind you that there is no perfect family, like when you stop at McDonalds and spill your

orange soda in your mothers seat before even leaving Northeast Colorado. These family
