Beginning to write a personal essay on my background as well as my career and academic goals seems to be a very straightforward task for the most part. The career and academic part is pretty easy. Career wise I’ve decided to go for a paralegal position because that will allow me to step into the world of law, make a decent living, and not only leave my options open but also set me up with a fair amount of legal skills and knowledge that will prove extremely beneficial should I decide to take the LSAT and apply to law school. I ended up graduating from Rehobeth and while it was nothing special, I was surprised that I actually did graduate. It’s not that any of high school was academically hard or beyond me, but rather that I was bored beyond reason and possessed a laziness that would rival a sloth. Over the next ten years I had a series of relationships, jobs and opportunities, all of which had moments that were either amazing, monotonous, legally questionable and dangerous or variations of all of the above. While on that path of self destruction, it felt like I was all alone, no one cared a thing about me and there was no reason to care enough to evaluate my actions as dangerous or not. Why? What’s the point? Live fast die young was the mentality. YOLO! The lifestyle is so much fun to begin with, you experience true freedom, the kind of freedom that you will never find anywhere else, but as the saying goes, freedom is never really free. Sure, you do not have a single obligation and no one to answer to, no bills, no deadlines or due dates but you soon realize what the price for the freest kind of freedom is.
