Personal Assessment
My parents, my brother and I came from Guatemala in two thousand, fleeing violence and insecurity that live there. We suffered the kidnapping and murder of my nephew despite having paid their ransom. We had to leave our lives, our property, and I left my profession; because I had the opportunity to graduate from the University with a bachelor 's degree in psychology. When we come my English was very basic because it was only the requisite at the University; my advantage was that as I like to read I was self-taught in English, I read with a dictionary to translate what I did not understand; for this reason, my English is very bad pronunciation, and I 've learned by reading, not listening to it.

However, thank God and my family, my daughter was fine, living in a stable home; as a smart girl she was studying in a magnet school. The social worker told me about the programs that CalWORKs and Gain had to get ahead and they gave me the opportunity to continue studying. At that moment my life changed, I decided that I was enough strong to move forward, fight for myself, and give a good example to my daughter. I looked myself in the mirror and said me I deserve a better life, I know I 'm worth a lot, I can achieve any goal, and my daughter deserves a mother that gives her good examples and a better
Our Session Long Project (SLP) for Module 1 transforms the evaluation essay into a job evaluation. The type of job evaluation used in this SLP identifies the responsibilities of the job and bases the individual’s performance on these responsibilities. What does this mean to the employee; it means that if they understand the responsibilities of their job they are better able to perform it to the satisfaction of the evaluator. However employees who are not informed of their responsibilities can invalidate your evaluation process very quickly and wreck havoc in any organization.
I come from a low income family with no background. My parents do not speak English. When we first moved to America, I had to teach myself English and then teach it to my parents. It is agonizing and heartbreaking to see how hard my parents work for my siblings and I. As immigrants, they work day and night in order to provide us with a better education and life. My mom leaves for work at 4 am and comes back at 7pm. My dad leaves at 5 am and comes back at 8 pm. Ever since my sister and I were young, we had to act like adults. We did all the chores, study, cook and more. My parents sacrificed a lot for me, just so I would have a taste of success that they never...
When I first came to this country, I wasn’t thinking about the language, how to learn it, use it, write, how I’m going to speak with people who are next to you and you want to talk to them. My first experience was in Veterans School, it was my first year in school here in United States, and I was in eight grades. The first day of school you were suppose to go with your parent, especially if you were new in the school, like me. What happened was that I didn’t bring my dad whit me, a woman was asking me a lot of questions and I was completely loss, I didn’t have any idea of what she was telling me and I was scare. One funny thing, I started cry because I fell like frustrate, I didn’t know no one from there. Someone seat next to me, and ask me in Spanish what was wrong and I just say in my mind thanks God for send me this person, then I answered her that I didn’t know Engl...
The first and second year after moving from China to the United States, I was afraid to talk to strangers because my English was not very well. I had to depend on my husband for dealing with my personal business, such as making a doctor’s appointment, calling to the bank, or questioning to DMV officers. Douglass says, “being a slave for life began to bear heavily upon my heart” (62). For myself, being a dependent and helpless adult is a shame. Moreover, I lacked of extra money to go to school to improve my English. Thus, I stayed home all the time to avoid embarrassment of talking to strangers. After a while, I realized that improving English speaking skills are the essential to gain my self-confidence. So, I spent time to read various articles on the internet and watched English dialogues’ videos on YouTube. As a non-English speaking immigrant living in the U.S., I inevitably encountered a series of difficulties to integrate myself into a new
I am always a little nervous and hesitant when I begin writing an essay. Ever since I was little I was an honor roll student, passed all my tests, was placed in honors and AP classes, and eventually graduated a year early from high school. I used to be so confident when I would begin writing a paper, I could finish it within a couple minutes. During junior year of high school, I began taking duel credit classes. I was passing all the classes so far until I reached English 111. It was an 8-week course and I started to get overwhelmed. All throughout the course I was having a little bit of trouble on the essays. I would still receive a passing grade, but it wasn’t an A. I began becoming a little discouraged and didn’t understand what was going
In 2008, I had the opportunity to move to Guatemala and teach English to children of all ages. What was intended to be a one year commitment turned into five, I remember my experience working with students who lived in the children’s homes due to their families living in rural areas far from the school. My time in Guatemala made me a more thankful and empathetic
I strongly believe that the class, HD341 Communication for Empowerment fulfill my goals in taking this class because it is giving me many opportunities to make connection with other classmates. I usually check in by sharing my stories at school, at work, and any issues that I am still concerned. Therefore, verbal communication is an area I frequently use in class to communicate with my peers as well as my professor. I also have active listening my classmate’s stories and have critical thinking to giving feedbacks to them.
As my English 101 class comes to an end, I have realized how much I have transformed as a writer. In this essay, I am going to explain what I realized my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer and how they have manifested themselves throughout the quarter. I was skeptical at first coming into this class knowing that English takes formidable work and dedication, but I am very proud of the progress I have made. We completed a great deal of work throughout the quarter; from grammar exercises, summary reviews, and two challenging essays. Throughout the quarter I found myself improving in each category. As a writer, my skills and confidence have developed into more clarity and thought, something I have always wanted to be, as a result of a well constructed class that led to a superb educational experience.
In the world of education, assessments play an integral role in student learning. To get the most out of assessments, they must be aligned with the standards, accurately measure what students know, as well as promote student learning (McTighe and O’Connor, 2005). In order to do this, it is important to include students in the assessment planning process. This should begin at the beginning of a unit with the pre-assessment and should be carried throughout the formative and summative assessments. Dr. Anne Davies believes that “when students are involved in the assessment process, they are more engaged and motivated, and they learn more” (Davies, 2007, p. 31). In my interdisciplinary unit, I attempt to include students in every stage of the assessments
Personality tests tell a person a lot about why a person is who they have become. I believe that these test if taken truthfully can identify deficiencies that individuals can work on to benefit not only themselves but others in the organizations that they work in. Some models state that it is in human nature and chemicals that decided how a person acts but I believe it is based on life experiences and a personality can change as long as a person knows the deficiencies and works to change them.

One great example of a major change within on of my group settings is with my friend group. This major change happened when I graduated from college and I no longer was with my group of friends all of the time. While in school, we lived together and did everything together. We would spend almost all day with each other. However, when we graduated we all moved back home, which was all over the east coast. Three of us lived in three different parts of New Jersey, while one lived in Rhode Island, one in New York, and the other in Pennsylvania. We went from seeing each other non stop to only being able to all be together a few times during the year. Although it was upsetting, we had to learn how to communicate in different ways. We also
Motivation is something that can affect everyone, it could be for money, punishment, or even sex. My biggest motivation was whenever I wrestled in high school, it was just the feeling of getting my hand raised on the matt knowing I won. Some people may ask what else do I think motivation is. I happen to know someone who I think defines Motivation, her name is Corina Herrera she is a 27 year old, single mother of two MMA fighter. I have never met someone who is so dedicated to do something. “ I knew I was born to fight” , she once told me and she had proven this is what she is meant to do.She had a fight the beginning of August 2016 she worked day and night cutting weight and training. Her goal is to get into the UFC and I know with the hard work and dedication
Experiments use inquiry skills and methods to make estimates, predictions, gather and analyze data, draw conclusions, and present findings. Examples include texting sink or float objects, growth conditions, and steps needed to create an electrical circuit.
My family emigrated from the Dominican Republic when I was two years old. At the time, none of us spoke any fluent English. Due to their limited education,
