In basketball, the National Championship game is the dream of every kid that plays basketball in college. NC State’s basketball team wasn’t well known in 1983. Jim Valvano was the coach and he knew he had a great group of kids. When they won the ACC tournament against the great Ralph Sampson and Virginia, people thought that the win was just luck and they probably wouldn’t make last when they got into the tournament. Throughout the tournament, NC State kept surviving and advancing. In Johnathan Hock’s documentary “Survive and Advance”, Hock uses stock footage of the games that were played during the tournament, different points of view from the players, and the sequence of the documentary to prove that NC State’s basketball team were the underdogs during the whole tournament; however they were able to win despite their adversity
Before watching the movie the “The Hammer” I didn’t know what to expect. I had never seen a deaf movie before and I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to understand the movie completely. Watching the movie wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be, and I enjoyed it. The best part about it was that it’s based on the true story about Matthew “The Hammer” Hamill.

A star's image is processed through advertisements and promotions and has little to do with what the audience wants and needs from entertainment. As a little kid, I think everyone has had a dream or goal to become a professional ball player or celebrity. The reason kids set these goals, because it is considered cool to be a professional ball player or celebrity. Also, those careers pay a lot of money for the things people love to do: play. For some, they do not care what it will take for them to achieve those goals and dreams. My dream was to become a professional baseball player, but I needed to focus on my education more.
The documentary, The Interrupters, is a film that tells the ongoing journey of three ‘violence interrupters’ who’s goals are to stop and prevent violence from their South Side Chicago, Illinois neighborhoods, which they once took part of. An interesting aspect of this film is that Ameena Matthews, Cobe Williams and Eddie Bocanegra, the three ‘violence interrupters’, reflect on their experiences with violence in the streets of Chicago in order to better help these young men and women avoid the community violence. These three ‘violence interrupters’ work intensely with a number of people (mostly young adults) who are prone to acting out and violent behavior.

The movie Courageous discusses important issues we face in society today. This movie shows the importance of family, the danger of drugs, and the major importance of Christian values. Courageous causes me to consider how I treat others around me and how I can become a better Christian. I learned that living a life looking out only for myself and pursuing worldly pleasures not only consists of superficial and temporary happiness, but also consists of pain, suffering, emptiness and a longing for something more than what we have.
