Perseus “Percy” Jackson is a twelve year old kid. He is a boarding student in a private school called Yancy Academy. He has trouble with school, because he has dyslexia and ADHD. Percy lives with his mother Sally Jackson and his stepfather who he awfully hate, Gabe Ugliano. His best friend who have been there with him all through the year, Grover Underwood, takes him Camp Half-Blood. Camp Half-Blood is a camp for all the gods’ and goddesses’ daughters and sons. There, Percy finds what Grover really is, a Satyr, who is half goat from waist to bottom (he also tiny horns on their head). He also finds out that his Greek mythology teacher, Mr. Brunner, is Chiron, a centaur (half horse from waist to bottom). What caused Percy to stay in Camp Half-Blood is because he have been almost killed by a fury (the fury was in disguise as Mrs. Dodds, the substitute for pre-algebra subject) and unluckily, his mother crushed by the hands of a minotaur on their way to Camp Half-Blood. Percy later then meets Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, and Luke Castellan, son of Hermes. As the campers and Percy were playing capture the flag, Percy healed by water (by voices of a god) and had a glowing trident spins on top of his head. They officially knew he is Poseidon’s son.
Zeus’s lightning bolt gets lost and sent all his sons and daughters to look for it. After Poseidon confessing he have broken the oath (of not having kids with mortals after World War 2), Zeus immediately accuses Percy. So then, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover takes a quest to find Zeus’s lightning bolt. They decide to head to the Underworld to save Percy’s mom but only Percy knows that. Campers from the Camp Half-blood starts leaving, and barely any year-rounder stays. Percy had to choose to either to stay in camp for whole year or go home back with his mother, who has returned as an appreciation reward from Hades for receiving his helm back. Annabeth goes home with her father and try to reunite (they had a not-so-well relationship ever since he married a girl, now Annabeth’s stepmother). Grover went to his ultimate quest, to find Pan (God of nature, the wild, shepherds, flocks, goats, and mountain wild). When Percy decides to go home with his mom, Sally decides to turn Gabe into stone with Medusa’s head that Percy mailed to Olympus but was sent back to Percy. Percy and Sally moved into another apartment and Percy attends another private school in Manhattan.
Percy’s relationship with other characters reveal a lot about who he is.The feelings with his mother is that there close. Percy feelings his dad is he thinks he’s a coward and Percy doesn't like his step father. Percy's feelings with his mom is that they are both close because in the text it says “But ever since, my mom went out of her way to eat blue. She baked blue birthday cakes. She mixed blueberry smoothies. She bought blue-corn tortilla chips and brought home blue candy from the shop. This—along with keeping her maiden name, Jackson, rather than calling herself Mrs. Ugliano—was proof that she wasn't totally suckered by Gabe. She did have a rebellious streak, like me.” This shows they are close because he calls her mom and cares about
There are many other characters in the story the story, but there are a couple special one. Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena. So you can imagine she was one smart cookie. Percy’s father is Poseidon, god of the sea. Athena and Poseidon didn’t really get along. Annabeth and Percy have something in common: both have family issues and terrible step-parents. First, he is called to an adventure in which he is assigned to complete an impossible task. Then he is mentored by Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and assisted by the magical gifts given by the nymphs to overcome a monster. Using the advice and tools he has received on his journey, Perseus kills the monster with his wits by using the reflection of his shield instead of relying on brute force. On his road back home, Perseus commits a good deed by saving a damsel in distress by slaying another monster. Finally, Perseus arrives home and is arguably the only Greek hero with a happy ending.
evil. In Perseus his antagonist was the king of the island. “The eye of the ruthless king of the island” ( pg 116, D'aulaires). Percy Jackson antagonist was Luke son of Hermes. Percy was modernized on how “Luke was Percy’s “friend” but turned out to frame Perseus for stealing the lightning bolt” ( Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief). In Perseus he fought a sea monster. “Perseus sprang into the air, dived at the monster and drove his sword deep into its throat” (pg 120, D'aulaires). Percy Jackson also had another antagonist which was his uncle Hades. “When Percy first came into the Half-blood camp, a fire rose up and told Percy that he had his mom” ( Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief). It was modernized because one of Percy’s family members took his mom. The theme good vs. evil concept they share it because they both have many enemies and Perseus kills them in either the sea or on a island, “As one of the sisters was handing the eye to another, Perseus sprang forward and snatched it.” (pg 117, D'aulaires). When Perseus got the eye he swooped down to the island where the three Gray Sisters were laying. Percy on the other hand used a car to get the
During a chariot race, the campers are attacked by Stymphalian Birds, Tantalus, who was replacing Chiron at the time, sends Clarisse La Rue on a quest to go find the fleece. Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson run away from camp to go and find the fleece themselves. Hermes, the god of jacks, thieves, messages, etc., gives them gifts to help them on their quest. Percy asks his dad, Poseidon, to help them get to a cruise ship on the horizon. Three Hippocampi appear from the water and carries the three of them to the cruise ship named the Princess Andromeda. Once aboard the ship, they discover that the ship seems to be deserted, but find fully stocked cabins to sleep in. In the morning they wake up to find the ship full of tourists, but all of the tourists seem kind of off, as if they were in some sort of a trance. Then they discover that the ship is infested with monsters as well. The three are captured by Luke Castellan, who is the owner of the ship. Percy and his friends discover that Luke is transporting the ship with monsters and the remains of the Titan Kronos in a golden sarcophagus. Luke was going to also find the fleece and bring back Kronos to
Within this novel, the main character, Percy Jackson, is depicted to fit the universal archetype of a hero on a quest. Furthermore, Poseidon, Percy's father, shows the archetype of Magi with the guidance he provides Percy without him ever meeting him. On his quest to retrieve Zeus’ lightning bolt, the character of Luke also serves as a Hermes archetype and one of joker. He shows up right when the hero is about to make a breakthrough. Clearly, the characters demonstrate an archetypal prevalence that serves to develop the novel in the mythological type. With relation to modern life, Percy Jackson serves as an archetypal character that symbolizes goodness. He is a typical quiet young teenager with the additional issues of dyslexia and ADHD. He is an only child who lives in New York with his mother and step father. As the plot unravels, we learn that Percy, in his goodness, would do anything to protect his mother from
Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief is about a young boy (around the age of twelve) who finds out that he is the son of the greek god Poseidon. Percy Jackson is a true hero. Imagine if you had the chance to save your mother, but put your own life at risk. When Percy was given this chance, he never even thought about his own life. When he saved the world, he didn't care if he put his own life in immense trouble. When he met his half brother, he stood up for him, not caring if no one liked him after. It is clear that there is no way that Percy Jackson can be thought of anything but a hero, which is what he truly

Percy Jackson is the main character in this story, who is a demi god, who mortals are after. His name is short for Perseus and his father is one of the big three gods, Poseidon. He is suffering from dyslexia and ADHD, which could be deliberately added to the character by Riordan, to show he is meant to be a hero, and not to do well in school. This shows that school is not what he is good at, and he is destined to be a hero and save people. The character Grover, who plays Percy’s best friend, parallels a Satyr who is human from the waist up and goat from the waist down and is a companion of wine God, Dionysus, who we later learn, is the camp director for Half-Blood Camp.
The first part of the hero’s journey is the departure, which Percy Jackson’s story follows. Percy’s call to adventure was defeating his math teacher, who turned out to be a Fury from the Underworld. Though this was not the first unnatural thing that had happened in Percy’s life, this was the incident that changed his life. Unfortunately, Percy did not want his life
Then they get another prophecy saying that they have to have to save the queen of the gods, Hera. The prophecy was referring to Jason so he has to go on a quest. They say in the book that it is ancient law that at the most

After a few days of being at the camp he realizes what he has to do. His mother was taken by Hades to the underworld and Percy has to save her all while trying to prove to Zeus that he did not steal the Lighting bolt.
The fact that Percy Jackson has friends is incredible. It is an unshakable fact that any friend of his within a ten-mile radius will be in a life or death situation with him by dinner, and they are not always as lucky as he is. However, that is getting ahead of ourselves. Over the course of the five-part contemporary young adult series, Percy Jackson & The Olympians, the titular character, Percy Jackson, must embrace his Greek God parentage and save Olympus with the help of his fellow demigods. The aim of this paper is to discuss his Hero’s Journey throughout the series, provide an in-depth character analysis, and draw parallels between Percy and the three classic Greek heroes of mythology: Perseus, Theseus, and Hercules.
