People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), is an organisation dedicated to defending and establishing the rights of all animals. We are known for our tagline/slogan “Animals are not ours to eat, wear or experiment on, used for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”. We are a non-profit charitable organisation and were founded in 1980, by President and Co-founder of PETA, Ingrid Newkirk. Ingrid is our President and Co-founder of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). She has carried out her affection, dedication and love for animals for the past 25 years in hopes of making the world a better place for all beings. Ingrid, while working on her first job in relation to animals, she discovered animals that were captured in steel traps and animals that were abandoned and left to starve. It was then that she realised that she wanted to make a change and hence that was how she came up with PETA for she saw a need for it. Our organisation, above all, cares very much about the well-being of animals and believes that all animals on earth deserve to have their own rights. We also strongly believe in the idea that all beings - be it human or non-human - have a right to be free from harm. We make use of every opportunity possible to convey our messages across to our audience. Our approaches may sometimes seem extreme and we are often recognised by our loud, striking and sometimes controversial advertisements. However, we are convinced that merely informing the public of animal rights is not enough. We believe that it is necessary to shock people, so that they will remember our advertisements. Some advertisements can even go viral because of their controversy, but they reach masses of people and spark discussions, so we consider our job
